Step Up Blu-ray 3D Review

Step Up 3, Yes, the third – they just keep on coming! In step up 3 Moose is trying his best to work with Camille to patch up their relationship as she doesn’t know why he keeps ditching her at college. Though many mistake the two as a couple they are really just good friends. Moose (played by Adam Sevani) and Camille (played by Alyson Stoner, from Step Up and “Camp Rock” films) are attending NYU. Moose promised his parents he wouldn’t get back into dancing so he could focus on his studies. At college he ends up joining a dance crew call the house of Pirates. Moose is found skipping classes for dance practices leading up to a dance competition and Camille wondering where he it is that he is. What will come of their relationship with the dishonesty?

Despite the problems that Camille is facing from Moose being extremely busy these days; they still find time to go out. While out, the two get a chance to dance it out on the street using normal objects as props. Wait, what did you expect … a real storyline and Oscar worthy acting? This is step up 3 mind you, the first two should have told you this about music and dancin’. With that being said, if your into this genre and a fan of the prequels then you should enjoy this one just as much. The street scene is probably the best dance scene and perhaps homage to musicals of yester years.

Mean while Rick is after the intriguing Natalie who he has liked for some time. Natalie is a dancer as well and ends up joining Luke and Moose in The House of Pirates. The conflict to this story is that Natalie is actually the sister of the rival dance crew’s leader. (The House of Samurai’s) Natalie falls for Rick and is now stuck as to what she should do. Originally she was sent to spy on the House of Pirates for her brother, but can she now betray Nick and Moose for her brother to have a one up on the dance competition?

Step Up 3 Looked great in blu-ray, but it almost looked like it tried to hard in Blu-ray 3d. It was a cool experience though as the dancers jumped out at you when busting their moves, I’ll give it that. People who are fans of this genre though I bet would absolutely love it.  The 3d seemed more novelty as opposed to immersing like the Avatar 3D experience. As for the blu-ray video quality, it’s still disney so it still looks great. The blacks come in deep and the colors on set seem to be chosen with precision as they look great and vibrant on the blu-ray. I dont really see any teens watching this for the video quality anyway, more so the audio quality.  Regardless, no one should be disappointed in the video quality on this film presented in 1080p at 1.78:1 for both the blu-ray and 3D version.

The audio quality is smoking hot. Step Up 3d crashes through your speakers with a 7.1 DTS HD Master Audio track for both the blu-ray and Blu-ray 3d disc. The music on this film is good if your into hip hop and dance music, and it sounds just as great coming out of regular tv speakers or a home theater setup. I listened to it on both, the additional audio tracks are simply Dolby Digital 5.1. Of course it sounds better when using an HD audio capable receiver, but my point is for many consumers who will buy this who dont have a home theater set up it will still sound VERY good! You and your kids will love it. The sub woofer gets tons of work as well as the front and center channel which get the bulk of the load. Though I didn’t totally find the 3d as immersing as other 3d blu-rays I did find the audio quality on this title very immersing and engulfing as the 7.1 track utilizes the rear speakers well as there is just so much music.

Quite a good deal of Supplements on all discs and inclusion of the DVD and digital copy is always a plus in my book.

Extra moves (Linear Video). This music montage features the dancers with alternate angles and extra footage
Born from a Boombox: A Luke Katcher Film – (11:51) The full “Born from a Boombox” film that the character Luke shot.
Extra Moves – (7:20) Behind-the-scenes of “Step Up 3” with the making of the various dance scenes throughout the film.
Deleted Scenes – (23:57) 8 Deleted scenes, most better than parts in the movie … leaves you thinking?
Making of the Music Videos – (7:15) Discussion of making the music videos.
“Club Can’t Handle Me” – Flo Rida featuring David Guetta (3:52)
“My Own Step (theme from Step Up 3D)” – Roscoe Dash and T-Pain, featuring Fabo (4:42)
“Already Taken” – Trey Songz (3:58)
“This Girl” – Laza Morgan (3:13)
“This Instant” – Sophia Fresh featuring T-Pain (3:36)
“No Te Quiero (Remix)” – Sophia Del Carmen featuring Pitbull (3:13)
“Irresistible” – Wisiny Yandel (3:15)
“Spirit of the Radio” – Jrandall (3:10)

Quite simple, if this isn’t your type of film then you will probably hate the storyline and find all the cheese in it you will need to prove those thoughts. However, if your a fan of dance movies and films like Step Up 1 and 2 and flicks like “Stomp The Yard” then you will in fact find this as another great addition to a franchise that started out years ago with a budget of 12 million and raked in 120+. The music is good and the movie is stylish. The disc itself has great video and sound quality and a nice array of supplements that makes you really feel like you are getting your money’s worth. We reviewed the 3 disc edition, including the Blu-ray 3d version and I’m inclined to recommend this title to fans of this genre.
