Advanced Screening: Hall Pass

WARNING: This will probably contain, what some would consider, spoilers.

I just got back from an advanced screening of “Hall Pass” starring Owen Wilson and Jason Sudeikis. I knew the movie was going to be funny enough, but didn’t really know what to expect. I’ve been let down by most of the comedies released within the past year or two so I went into this film not expecting much, but luckily it was better than I expected.

It’s not on the same caliber of comedy as Superbad or The Hangover, but it’s certainly better than Due Date and Just Go with It. The film was directed by the Farrelly brothers, who are probably best known for There’s Something About Mary, and i’d say this film fit their style perfectly. There are certainly some over-the-top instances, while other laughs are ones that you’d expect. I was really surprised with Owen’s performance in the film; i’ve grown to expect the same thing from him in every film he does, but he actually changes it up a bit for this film which was a pleasant surprise.

As for a recommendation, I’d certainly say it’s worth the money if you’re looking for something funny; however it may not be something you want to take the kids to see, as there is full-frontal male nudity.
