‘Beastly’: The Fight of Good versus Evil

Susan Cartsonis, the maker of ‘No Reservations’ and ‘What Women Want’ has come up with her latest venture ‘Beastly’ under the banner of production house Storefront Pictures.  The movie is directed and scripted by Daniel Barnz.

The story of the movie revolves round a handsome seventeen year old teenager Kyle which is portrayed by Alex Pettyfer . He is playing the role of a spoil brat who is very arrogant and looks down upon everyone. He studies in one of the popular high schools and always humiliates the people who are inferior to him in beauty and attraction.

He chooses Kendra which is played by Mary-Kate Olsen as his next target for humiliation but this prank falls opposite on him. Kendra is a witch in disguise who is attending the high school and decurses Kyle of loosing his attraction and charm. His looks will become as unattractive as he is from inside. The condition of getting free from the curse is that he has to find a person who loves him as he is from outside. The story reminds of the classic movie ‘Beauty and the Beast’ and the movie seems to be a conflict of good versus evil. He has a year’s time to find the person who will love Kyle in his present self and if he fails in this process he will be left with his beastly appearance throughout his life.

The final ray of hope lies with quiet Lindy (Vanessa Hudgens) whom he never noticed as a classmate. She may love Kyle and give the proof that beauty lies within and has nothing to do with the outer self. The movie basically carries the theme of importance of inside beauty and the victory of good over evil.

The movie fails to make any impact over the audience owing to poor acting and improper scripting. The fundamental of the movie runs on a very week plot.
