Advanced Screening: The Lincoln Lawyer

I was invited to a film screening of The Lincoln Lawyer, starring Matthew McConaughey last night and wasn’t exactly thrilled with the thought of seeing the movie. I don’t hate Matthew McConaughey, but lately his films have been going downhill and the title of the film wasn’t interesting in the slightest. I knew very little about the story, as i’d never read the book, nor had I watched any of the trailers.

I settled into my chair at the theater unsure what to expect; 119 minutes later I leave the theater unsure how I really felt about what I’d just seen. The film was very well made, well acted, and fairly well paced; however there were a few times it felt a bit slow. Matthew McConaughey definitely picked his game up for this film, and upon post-film reading I discovered that he intentionally took time off from work to get back to the dramas that he preferred to do over what he’d been doing lately.

However it wasn’t anything amazing. If you were to ask me directly about my recommendation for the film i’d have to honestly tell you to only see it if you can find it at a bargain hour. The film isn’t bad by any means, but trust me when I say you’ve seen it before. The plot isn’t anything special, and unless you’re just a fan of the genre you’ll more than likely leave the theater and be confused on your feelings about the film, as I was. Again, I’m not saying it’s a bad film, I’m just saying it’s not worth the price of a full admission.
