Manhunter Coming to Blu-ray on September 13th

Even though the 1986 thriller film Manhunter was released earlier as a part of The Hannibal Lecter Collection, it seems that MGM is now ready to release it on Blu-ray separately. In fact, has been confirmed that a Blu-ray version of the film will be available some time during September.

The film was based on the novel Red Dragon and was directed by Michael Mann, who is well known as the producer of the Miami Vice television series. This was the first film where the villainous character, Hannibal “The Cannibal” Lecter, a cannibalistic serial killer, was introduced and made his debut. Brian Cox (Troy) portrayed Hannibal Lecter in the film. The follows FBI profiler Will Graham portrayed by William Peterson (To Live and Die in L.A.) who seeks Lecter’s advice during the investigation of a case that involves another serial killer by the name of ‘The Tooth Fairly’, who is portrayed by Tom Noonan. The rest of the cast of the film also includes Dennis Farina, Joan Allen and Stephen Lang.

As mentioned, Manhunter already became available previously in The Hannibal Lecter Collection, but this Blu-ray release can be considered as a repackaging of the Blu-ray version of the film. The theatrical cut of the film with in the original 2.39:1 and with the DTS-HD Master Audio track, is being presented in this Blu-ray release. A bit of a disappointing fact is that there will be no special features accompanying the film. Nonetheless it is definitely worth the watch, especially on Blu-ray that should be available on the 13th of September.
