Real Steel Scores the Top Box Office Position

Real Steel made its debut all over the US earning a total of $27.3 million over the weekend and therefore knocked away all the competition. Both action film admirers and family audiences were attracted to IMAX theatres to watch this action, sci-fi drama, summer movie on the multiplex screens. Hugh Jackman, Dakota Goyo, Evangeline Lilly, Anthony Mackie and Kevin Durand star in this futuristic movie that is set in the year 2020, where the sport of boxing has been taken over by robots. After a long losing streak and having lost two robots, father and son duo Charlie Kenton (Hugh Jackman) and Max (Dakota Goyo) find a discarded boxing robot, deciding to upgrade it and get it ready to box in the ring once again.12% of the movie’s total earnings, which sum up to $3.2 million were earned thanks to the IMAX showings.
Taking up the second spot at the box office this weekend was the rated political drama The Ides of March by Sony. The film stars George Clooney and Ryan Gosling, two much admired actors and is based on Beau Willimon’s play of the same name. The R-rated film was much appreciated by more sophisticated audiences, earning a total of $10.4 million over the weekend to rank at the second place in the box office.

Dolphin Tale in 3-D, the film by Warner Bros’ had been a box office topper for several weeks but has now dropped down to third place in the box office. Falling below Dolphin Tale is Moneyball from Sony that took up the number fourth box office spot.
