The Oppo BDP-93 is your all in one package for this current gen. There is a slightly more advanced BDP-95 model for the most extreme audiophiles that is releasing in February, though the 93 is not to be taken lightly. The 93 offers the obvious blu-ray playback as well as Blu-ray 3d playback. Those two specs alone make it a worthy blu-ray player for those looking to buy for the future, though that is far from all.
The BDP-93 is your average to above average audioholic’s dream. This bad boy can play just about everything thrown at it. CDs, SACDs, DVD Audio, DVDs, HDCD, Kodak Picture CD, AVCHD, MP4, DivX, MKV, FLAC, WAV and other audio/video/picture files on recorded discs, USB etc. Hell, even eSATA drives can be played off this. Inclusion of BD Live and BonusView are no problem, and neither is instant streaming for Netflix or Blockbuster On Demand. With connections for ethernet or the option to go wireless this baby is fully functional.
It handles Dolby TrueHD (along with DD, and DD Plus) and DTS HD Master Audio with ease. The BDP-93 supports bit-stream output of DTS-HD Master Audio. It can also internally decode DTS-HD Master Audio and output via HDMI as well as It can internally decode Dolby TrueHD into LPCM and output via HDMI or the 7.1ch analog audio output terminals. DTS-HD High Resolution Audio and DTS Digital Surround are supported as well.
An awesome piece of equipment. It’s well worth the $500 price tag. And the $65 region free dongle works like a charm. I can still upgrade my firmware and continue using the dongle.
OPPO = There is no substitute!
