Wreck-It-Ralph Blu-ray 3D Review

Wreck-It-Ralph-1

Fix it Felix arcade has survived the test of time and survived through the changes in video games. Deep within its screen the characters come alive and there we meet Ralph. Ralph is tired of always being the bad guy and wants some recognition, but he realizes that he must leave the game in order to get a medal and prove to everyone that he too can be a good guy. His quest leads him to various different video game worlds until and accident leads him to sugar rush where he meets Venellope. However beneath all the sugar and jolly racing world lies a deeper threat that nobody is aware of. But Ralph and Venellope are now on a journey to uncover their true selves.

Ever since Disney and Pixar began their relationship we have had a tremendous array of great animated features ranging from toy story, finding Nemo, and monsters Inc. to name a few, but we forgot how good Disney still is in this field that Wreck-It-Ralph came and left and people enjoyed it. Wreck-it-Ralph was beautifully done with a simple and yet effective story line that left a good impression.

Wreck-It-Ralph was sort of a trip down memory lane and perhaps some of the older viewers will really appreciate the cameo appearances of some of the most beloved villains in video game history. Well played Disney, well played. I know that growing up I’m almost certain that I wasn’t the only one who occasionally thought about what goes one inside the video and Disney really took this idea and crafted their adventure on this very notion. The video game aspect was just a theme in which the true story and adventure of two “outcasts” whose friendships will help them find the true purpose of their existence. Disney’s story was simple yet it managed to have the audience to easily attach to its characters. I mean, how many times do you find yourself rooting for the bad guy?

You can’t really create a good animated film without casting the correct actors to do the voice overs, but John C. Riley as Ralph and Sarah Silverman as Venellope were spot on. John C. Riley has always been a favorite comedian of mine, but he brings that clumsy and gutsy personally to Ralph. Sarah Silverman was excellent as Venellope who I really have no complaints on.

Wreck-It-Ralph-4

Wreck-It-Ralph arrives on Blu-ray with an MPEG4-AVC encode framed at 1.85:1 aspect ratio. Being an animated feature and from Disney the bar is pretty high, at least when it comes to quality transfers. Good news is that Disney did not disappoint us. The image is clean and pristine right from the get goes with a very colorful palette. You have your bright reds, blues, yellows, etc. throughout the film that totally makes the film eye candy. The detailing is fantastic. Black colors are deep and inky. There are no signs of any video anomalies. The 2D version looks fantastic.

The 3D version of Wreck-It-Ralph is a mirror image of its 2D counterpart. Colors are bright and vivid. The detailing is fantastic throughout the film. The 3D effects offer a few extra thrills that do not sacrifice the quality of the video. There is always a good sense of depth in between objects and there is no sign of video ghosting. The 3D effects appear as natural as possible. Overall, the 3D looks just as good as the 2D.

Wreck-It-Ralph-7

Wreck-It-Ralph arrives on Blu-ray with a 7.1 DTS-HD master Audio lossless track. The dialogue is clean and clear throughout the movie. There’s plenty of action through the film and directionality is very effective. The rears are active when needed with ambience and atmospheric effects support. The score flows nicely through the track which is nice. The bass provides support and it is very balanced. There are plenty of good scenes where the track really puts your system to work. There’s no doubt, the track is fantastic.

Wreck-It-Ralph-2

I have always enjoyed Disney’s animation and lately their work has been getting better and now I am looking forward to what is next. If Wreck-It-Ralph is an indication of where the studio is going then I can’t wait to see what they have in store for us next. The movie definitely exceeded my expectations. The Blu-ray looks and sounds fantastic. The supplements were also enjoyable. Wreck-It-Ralph has a little bit of something for kids and adults so I doubt that anyone will have an excuse not to add this to their collection. I highly recommend it!
