Pacific Rim 2 has been set for April 2017

Breaking News: Last year, the Sci-fi blockbuster Pacific Rim was a game changer that mainstreamed the idea of large robots fighting monsters. Director Guillermo Del Toro mentioned about a month ago that he was working with Zak Penn on a screenplay and now Legendary Pictures and Universal Studios have announced that Pacific Rim 2 will hit theaters on April 7th, 2017 in IMAX 3D and 3D. Here’s a statement from Del Toro to BuzzFeed:

“The characters I love will return; Raleigh, Mako, Newt, Gottlieb and who knows, maybe even Hannibal Chau – but we are taking them into a fresh territory that will display amazing sights and battles. The first film set the stage and now we’re ready to have a blast.”

For fans of the franchise, there is also mention of an animated series to continue the story from the graphic novel Pacific Rim: Tales from Year Zero. Here’s also a little message from Guillermo Del Toro
