Universal’s Monsters reboot acquires new writer

Thanks to Marvel, Cinematic Universes seem to be all the rage these days. On top of DC’s attempt at creating one (which began with last year’s MAN OF STEEL) and the recent news that Dan Akyroyd wants to see a GHOSTBUSTERS Cinematic Universe, Universal Pictures also has one in the works for their Classic Monsters franchise.

Universal’s Classic Monsters have been around since the 1930s. The beloved franchise includes horror staples such as Dracula, Frankenstein, the Mummy, the Invisible Man, the Wolfman and the Creature from the Black Lagoon.

The first film in pre-production for the upcoming reboot is THE MUMMY. That film is currently being written by Jon Spaihts (PROMETHEUS) and will be directed by Alex Kurtzman (PEOPLE LIKE US). Now Deadline reports that Noah Hawley (2014 television series FARGO) will be penning the second film in the reboot, though it’s still unknown to which film that will be.

The Universal Monsters reboot project will be an interconnected series and will be spearheaded by Kurtzman and THE FAST AND THE FURIOUS producer Chris Morgann.
