Warner Bros. reveals film calendar and the stars of their upcoming superhero franchises

wonderwoman

It’s a bird! It’s a plane! Nope, it’s just Warner Bros. making waves this week with an announcement of (finally) a standalone WONDER WOMAN movie. After Israeli actress Gal Gadot was cast as the Amazonian super heroine, rumors started swirling about the beloved character finally getting her own film. Many were dismayed when it was announced that Wonder Woman would make an appearance in BATMAN V SUPERMAN: DAWN OF JUSTICE instead. Today, however, Warner Bros. finally confirmed that they will indeed be distributing a solo Wonder Woman film, although audiences won’t get to see it until 2017, the same year JUSTICE LEAGUE will be released. Man of Steel Henry Cavill and Batman Ben Affleck will be reprising their roles for the DC ensemble film.

It will certainly be quite the balancing act for Warner Bros., who announced a whole slate of upcoming projects through 2020. Also in the queue is THE FLASH movie starring WE NEED TO TALK ABOUT KEVIN’s Ezra Miller, along with an AQUAMAN film starring Khal Drogo himself, GAME OF THRONES’ Jason Momoa. Both of those are expected in 2018, while SHAZAM, starring Dwayne Johnson, is expected in 2019. Casting Ezra Miller as The Flash came as a surprise to DC fans, many of whom expected Grant Gustin (who currently stars on the speedy superhero’s CW TV show) to take on the feature film role as well.
