From Dusk Till Dawn, very quotable, heavy use of practical creature effects, solid cast and crew involved in making such an awesome film! Near Dark is a close second 🙂
Near Dark because it is very unique. It has its own take on the vampire genre.
Salems Lot for me, was and still is the ONLY film to give me the willies “open the window” ask my Mom, when I first watched this it haunted me for many years and to this day I always leave a bedroom window open, if they are going to get me, I want to go in my sleep and not know they are there!
The Lost Boys, all day long.
It’s not necessarily the scariest but it definitely has its
moments, the feed scene part of Michaels initiation was pretty graphic as a kid
growing up. The cast is awesome, Kiefer Sutherland is absolutely badass as
David, the frog brothers just make me smile with their one liners (Holy Sh*t!
It’s the attack of Eddie Munster) and I had a massive thing for Star (Jami
Gertz) as kid.
The Lost Boys to me is one of those films I can quite
literally watch on repeat and still enjoy.
Also I have to mention the soundtrack, there isn’t another
vampire film that can compete with it.
Cry litte sister, People are Strange and INXS Good Times, every
time the ‘I still believe’ scene comes on the volume right up.
This is without a doubt the best vamp movie ever made.
Let the Right One In. It’s a beautiful, chilling masterpiece with an amazing story, score, cinematography, and acting.
The Lost Boys so 80s love it
My favorite Vampire is the criminally overlooked Martin by George Romero.
It’s a classic and has you wondering the whole time if he’s really a vampire or if it’s all in his head.
I know it’s a bit cheesy, but still love Lost Boys
Nothing cheesy about that I can assure you! Tim Capello still rocks the sax and chains
Interview with a vampire because it is not a typical blood sucking gore fest all the way through,it gives a sort of insight into some of the downsides plus the film has a great cast and story
Vampire Circus watched it as a kid
Francis Ford Coppola’s “Bram Stoker’s Dracula”. That movie is so quirky that it made me intensively love it.
Dracula: Prince Of Darkness because Christopher Lee is “Dracula”
As unbelievable as it sounds, mine is probably Fright Night. Seen it SO many times, just love Roddy McDowell’s hammy Peter Vincent. “Welcome to Fright Night….For real”.
Awesome contest…. My favorite is Blade.
Fright Night as it has every thing you want from a Horror/Comedy film, loved it back in the 80s and still love watching now, just waiting for 1&2 to be release on UK blu ray
Fright night! When it first came out my friend and I brought red scarves ate apples and oranges, walked round saying welcome to Fright night fur eel and pretended to be Chris Sarandon just because he was cool. Pretty sad but still love it
Interview with a vampire has a deep story that is rare for a vampire film
This is a really hard question for me as I am a massive vampire film buff but as I have to choose one it would be John Carpenters Vampires because John Carpenter laces the suspense and splatter with his agreeable humour also not forgetting his arty special effects.
Awesome choice, another favourite of mine! I own Father Adam’s screen used vest and neck guard, pride of place in my movie room 🙂
So How did you mange to get hold of that then?
Obtained it from Prop Store of London 🙂
Well its got to be Near Dark, (Adrian Pasdar, Lance Henrikson & Bill Paxton). Absolutely love this film. Katherine Bigelow does a fantastic job directing. The bar seen is funny and bloody scary.
I will have to go with Underworld, good quality action and a overall good preformance from the actors.
Lost Boys… I grew up with that movie and I could watch it every day. I love the cast and soundtrack.
Lost boys is an awesome film watching it as a teen growing up
The Lost Boys, death by stereo need I say more 🙂
The Lost Boys, what a soundtrack.
The Lost Boys hands down!
Near Dark, easily the best vampire film ever made
Most definitely, Fright Night! Growing up in the middle of know where, didn’t allow to many forms of entertainment! Every weekend my family and I would rent a half dozen movies for the weekend. My father and I always picked horror movies. Every since I was 3, I loved horror, especially “Vampires!” I immediately got hooked on Fright Night the minute we rented it! I rented it every weekend, over and over again tell my family graciously got tired of it. 😉 There is something special and unique to that movie! It has it all: great actors and actresses, a comical yet compelling script, and ahead of its time special effects makeup! It has and will always be my favorite horror movie! So much so, that it had even inspired my artistic career!
there are so many good ones. fright night and the lost boys are at the top of that list but if i had to pick one I would have to say Near Dark, there was just something about it, something that hadnt been seen before in a vampire flick and has one of the most original takes on the genre.
Queen of the Damned… Lestat, best vampire ever.
lost boys for me, iconic and still a jawdropping, neck nibbling masterpeice
My favourite vampire film has to be Fright Night, everything about it is great, the casting especially Roddy McDowell and Chris Sarandon, the mix of horror and comedy, the epic soundtrack and it even had an enjoyable sequel, but other than Chris Sarandon appearance, I shall not mention the remake!
The mini-series tv adaption of Stephen King’s Salem’s Lot has always been a favorite vampire flick of mine for the reasons being it was one of the first movies that scared me as a youth. I use to be afraid of looking out from under my warm blankets towards my bedroom window out into the darkness in fear of seeing a Lil’ “Danny Glick” floating outside my bedroom window wanting in! My Dad would have to take me and show me that there was nothing to fear but fear itself (even though he was the culprit who would often attempt to spook me). He frequently would send me into our dark & dampen basement for vague items then proceed to scare me by warning me not to disturb the sleeping corpse of “Mr. Barlow”!
Later, when he got cancer, I took a copy of Salem’s Lot over and we watched it again while reliving old memories. I hope it meant as much to him as it did me.
Even though our relationship was strained, I will always remember that he helped create my love for the horror genre (after many failed battles with my mother over it I’m sure) and it all started in Salem’s Lot.
Lost Boys and Fright Night, the humour and sexiness is unrivalled!
You know, I love ‘Fright Night’ so much, but for the sake of variety, I’m gonna pick a little-known horror-comedy called ‘Netherbeast Incorporated’. It hilariously juxtaposes mundane office ennui with a modern-day vampire caper. It’s a unique take on vampire mythos. Plus, it stars Steve Burns from “Blue’s Clues”. DEFINITELY check it out!
Dracula (1931)
The atmosphere and mood is unmatched by contemporary vampire movies.
Great Giveaway! My favorite Vampire movie is Bram Stoker’s Dracula….. I just loved how he was portrayed by Gary Oldman and I loved the soundtrack!
blade; its a classic x
after some thought, From Dusk Till Dawn is my favorite vampire movie. My favorite thing about it is that if you don’t know it’s a vampire movie, it’ll totally take you by surprise. Like the first third of the movie is this crime movie following a couple of brothers crime spree through Texas. Than just out of no where, the bar they’re in is full of vampires. Amazing cast, amazing movie,
Gotta be The Lost Boys. So many elements make it just a perfect movie. Take them all away and it’d still be the best, just for sexy sax man alone. I STILL BELIEVE!
Let the right one in has to be one of the most beautiful films made in the genre. It is a very adult film through the eyes of a child and captures the solitude that is involved in not only a vampire but a bullied child. Its pretty amazing. Close runner up would be near dark and the addiction , both of which for looking at vampireism as an affliction not a gift and not romanticizing it in an Ann rice sort of way.
Nosferatu, the original silent classic. Creepy as all hell with fantastic cinematography, close to a century old and still unbeaten.
i love blade
Definately the first Blade film. I think it was the first movie I saw on DVD and I remember being awestruck by the vivid red blood in the opening nightclub scene. It gave me a real thirst for more 😉
My favorite is Interview with the Vampire. I just love Lestat, and this is a movie that holds up really well over time.
Great horror films are about so much more than frights and I think The Lost Boys is a great horror film. It’s about trying to find who you are when your growing up, it’s about family and best friends and it’s about adventure. For me it was like an adult version of The Goonies.
My favourite vamp film is Interview With A Vampire. I thought that having vampires as the protagonists shows the more interesting aspects of vampire mythology that most films tend to overlook: he difficulty & loneliness of living long lives and hiding their strength. Also, I thought Tom Cruise was great as Lestat, as he doesnt often play a villian and he seemed to have a great time doing so.
Has to be John Carpenter’s ‘Vampires’. Absolutely love it. It has a great villain, a great hero in James Wood’s Jack Crow and some great one liners. The gore is plentiful and the action comes thick and fast. Love it.
SO SO meny I carn’t just go with the 1 SORRY .
Bram Stoker’s Dracula was too sylised just more about the costumes witch where great lacked atmosphere though .
Fright Night 1 AND 2 BRILLIANT LOVE EM BOTH .
The Lost Boys Breathed a new life into what had become a farce of a genre a joke for movie makers .
Interview With The Vampire you where drawn into bohemian whirlwind .
Near Dark thumping atmospheric soundtrack Love Kathryne Bigalow .
Nosferatu a benchmark even for today .
Dusk Till Dawn FUN MASSIVE AMAZING FUN
Blade one of the best of the Marvel studio relises
Special mention for Originally to Sundown Vampire In Retreat and Dracula 2000 both severely undrated.
New take on the whole legend Dracula Untold is my ultra special mention .
Now for the one that pips the others for the Gothic feel of the Novel the most Best portrayal of Dracula EVER has for a long time been in my view THE BEST OF THE BEST adaptation of the novel
DRACULA 1979 Frank Langella as the Count . Directed by John Badham .
The Lost Boys, awesome film, none of these sissy vampires (twilight) and a good amount of humour.
For me it’s Lost Boys. I’ve seen it so many times and know most of the dialogue off by heart. A classic with a fab 80’s soundtrack. Not to mention Kiefer Sutherland and Jason Patric both looking fit!
the lost boys because its so 80s
