A review of Funko’s DC Legion of Collectors for January 2018: Teen Titans!

[wp-review id=”84128″]

The January 2018 theme for the Funko and DC Legion of Collectors box is Teen Titans. Now, these are the classic-looking Teen Titans with Nightwing, Cyborg, Raven, and Starfire so that is how they are depicted. Beast Boy is the only exception in his current look but I’ll get deeper into that.

This is a bi-monthly subscription box, which you can pay for per box at $25 USD.  The price is before the taxes and shipping charges.

THE BOX ART:

The outside of the box has the silhouette of disco Nightwing in his high collar, sharp mask, and flashy part in his hair. Open it up and the inside are panels of the 4 heroes: Nightwing, Cyborg, Raven, and Starfire. Again, in the classic style and large enough for the younger collectors to see what we grew up with (that made me feel old).

FUNKO POP!:

The POP! is Nightwing and this is Funko’s debut of the disco version. This is the blue costume with the yellow accents and popped collar. The dark blue is kind of the base color on his uniform with the sky or powder blue being the accents. It also has the yellow designs on the front and around the back to make his emblem that he has carried with him for decades. This is a POP! Figure that I am super stoked about due to me being such a huge fan of the character. I have the previous versions and this one will look excellent next to the others that I have.

THE ACTION FIGURES:

The action figures give the chance to get 2 out of 4 characters: Nightwing, Raven, Starfire or Cyborg. In the box that I received, I got Raven and Nightwing. These are similar to The Joker and Harley figure from the SUICIDE SQUAD box. Each figure comes in their own blister pack and unpunched card with a retro look. It reminds me of the old Super-Powers figures’ packaging and it takes me back. They’re posable to a point but they are going for that retro style. The Nightwing has some pretty good paintwork with a few runs. However, Raven is done with layers to have her cape being one piece and her dress is another. Her legs can be bent to a point but she is limited. Its because her dress comes down the front and because it is a solid piece, it doesn’t move. The little details are right on both figures and their packaging.

THE T-SHIRT, THE COMIC BOOK, AND PATCH:

Like the action figures, Funko is giving you a chance to get 1 of 2 different t-shirt designs of the tofu eating, Raven loving, shape-shifting hero: Beast Boy! It’s a solid black background with the coloring that makes the design quite catching. His name is written in red and he is in his current costume, also in red, with his body in bright green. The art is stylized and fitting for the character.

The comic book has an exclusive cover that hasn’t been Funko-ized. It is an exclusive cover of New Teen Titans #1 with artwork by Phil Jimenez. I really dig the artwork enough to frame it. It doesn’t have any writing on it so you can really appreciate the artwork and it looks like it was done with paint.

Cyborg is on the patch and he has that vintage-look to him with 80’s hair plus the half-metal headband. The lettering is in big, bold yellow and the small Legion of Collectors title at the bottom. Its a larger sized patch and it looks pretty good.

THE BOTTOM LINE:

For this being the first box of 2018 from Legion of Collectors, I can say that I’m happy with the choices. The t-shirt looks cool, I like the design and idea of the action figures plus Phil Jimenez’s artwork looks great. The real standout is the Nightwing POP! due to the old school design and just because he is an underrated characer. The patch is nice and I’m sure people who collect them with like it but I’m not really big into them. Overall though, I’m happy with the choices and I’m looking forward to the Green Lantern box in March 2018.

Here is an Unboxing and Review video for this one, enjoy!
