[wp-review id=”90045″]

Marina is a waitress and a singer. She is in love with an older man named Orlando and they have been out to celebrate Marina’s birthday. That same night, Orlando suddenly becomes sick and passes away only after they make it to the hospital. Now, the people around her are questioning motives and her love for Orlando.

A FANTASTIC WOMAN is directed and co-written by Sebastián Lelio. The other writer is Gonzalo Maza. The movie won the Oscar for Best Foreign Language Film of the Year and many other awards after its release. The lead is a played by Daniela Vega and she is a transgender woman. Her acting is emotional and heartbreaking at times. The character’s motivations for being in love are questioned by most of the people that she meets. She’s grief stricken and no one will let up on her.

VIDEO QUALITY:

The video is a 1080p AVC presentation that looks pretty good. The coloring has a natural look with none of the colors being to bold or off-putting. The skin tones looks natural and warm. The details are clear but not exceptionally sharp. It has an “indie” feel to it and it helps with the tone of the film.

AUDIO QUALITY:

The audio is a Spanish DTS-HD Master Audio 5.1 mix that has a good sound when it is needed. The two scenes where Marina is singing have an excellent sound with acoustics of the rooms. The music fills the speakers and it sounds beautiful. Other than that, the movie is very dialogue heavy and it is prioritized very well with the few effects as well as the music.

THE BOTTOM LINE:

A FANTASTIC WOMAN is a beautiful and emotional film. There isn’t a lot of Hollywood polish on it do distract you from what’s on the screen which is a relief. The Blu-ray has a decent audio and video presentation that does the job. The extras are on the weaker side and I would’ve liked to see more about the film and actors offered in the release. Either way, I recommend checking out this film.
