Funimation Suspends DBZ Blu-ray Production

Funimation has announced that they will be suspending further production of further Blu-ray release of Dragon Ball-Z including the previously announced Level 2.1.

Funimation is having technical difficulties during restoration from the original film frame, that it has halted all future production.

The Guard To Be Released On Blu-ray By Sony

A recent announcement was made by Sony that The Guard will be released on Blu-ray the next year. John Michael McDonagh, who is the brother of English filmmaker Martin McDonagh, is the director of this film, which stars Brendan Gleeson (Green Zone) and Don Cheadle (Out of Sight) in the lead roles.

This crime comedy film revolves around a Garda or an Irish policeman (Brendan Gleeson) and an FBI agent (Don Cheadle) who team to solve a case involving a drug cartel in Connemara Gaeltacht in Ireland.

John Michael McDonagh made his writing and directorial debut with this film that can be described as a parody of the “buddy cop” film genre. The film also shows how the two characters make an attempt to work together despite of not fitting appropriately in their own lives.

Apart from Brendan Gleeson and Don Cheadle, the rest of the cast of the film also includes Liam Cunningham (Hunger), Mark Strong (RocknRolla) and Fionnula Flanagan (The Others).

The Blu-ray version of The Guard will be presented by in the 2.39:1, original aspect ratio with a 5.1 DTS-HD Master Audio track. There will also be a variety of bonus features in the Blu-ray disc, which include:

The 3rd of January has been confirmed by Sony as the date that The Guard Blu-ray will be released.

Bridesmaids Tops the Blu-ray Sales Chart

Bridesmaids, a super doper comedy movie of summer 2011, tops the Blu-ray sales charts for the week ending September 25, 2011. The movie was produced with the budget of $32.5 million and was successful in bagging the total box office collection of $285 million from its worldwide theatrical run. Bridesmaids is able to derive 30% of its package media sales from the HD format.

President of Universal Studios Home Entertainment, Craig Kornblau commented that Bridesmaids have performed astonishingly on Blu-ray with overwhelming response from the home entertainment consumers.

The Blu-ray of Bridesmaids is packed with stunning audio and video quality. The story is of a girl named Annie, who is the bride of honor. She along with other bridesmaids and her best friend Lillian take on to the crazy journey of a matrimonial. She will not leave any stone unturn and would go far to prove her love. The movie directed by Paul Feig stars Kristen Wiig, Maya Rudolph, and Melissa McCarthy.

Star Wars was at the No. 2 on Blu-ray sales chart and on No.3 position on the compiled sales chart. It has created a new Blu-ray movies record from the units sold in the category of catalog release. Star Wars is also acclaimed of initiating high revenues from home video entertainment industry.

Thor has dropped down to 3^rd position from the last week and the No. 4 spot is held by Dumbo for the Blu-ray sales charts.

The Matrix Blu-ray Steelbook Trilogy Surfaces!

Thanks to our forum member thedonguillermo he has shown us a listing for the entire Matrix Trilogy in blu-ray steelbook form. For all the Matrix heads, this is a great day as they can finally grab the famous set (minus the animatrix) in one nice collector’s edition. The first Matrix classic got a release to blu-ray steelbook this year from Alliance in Canada, and though its artwork makes it a must buy this set combined with that one might be all a Matrix fan would ever need. Here’s to hoping the artwork and languages printed on the front/back cover please all Matrix fans world-wide.

The title is set to release along side some other famous sets in steelbook form in France this October. (others include, The Mummy trilogy & The Bourne Trilogy) The listing(s) can be found below, which coincides with the FNAC listing which claims it a Boîtier métal release which means SteelBook in France.

A Town Called Panic Blu-ray Review

Movies that usually become our favorites either feature our favorite actors or are showcased within a genre that is preferred by us. When we talk about a film like ‘A Town Called Panic’, it is hard to determine what might be in store for you even if you catch a glimpse of the trailer. ‘A Town Called Panic’ or Panique au Village, is a French film that might as well slip in your favorite list of films even though you might not know much about it till you actually watch it.

At the Fantastic Fest in 2009 the film actually won the Audience Award which is a proof to quite an extent that the film is worth watching. The film is an animated movie using the stop motion technique and it might even give you the impression of being a French version of the Toy Story franchise since it features a cast of toys. The actual voice cast includes t and surprisingly Aubier is also the director of the film as well.

The stop motion-animated toys which are the main characters in the film look quite similar to children’s toys you might usually find at bargain surplus stores. The movie is enjoyable enough for little children and even adults since the plot expands in a very attractive manner. You can easily find this film on Blu-ray now and there is not better than to enjoy the film by watching it in high definition quality.

Hall Pass Blu-ray

Judging from the name of the film Hall Pass you might get the wrong impression about the plot since it has got nothing to do with hall passes or college campuses. Nonetheless in spite of being the exact opposite the movie will easily succeed in making you laugh and ensuring that you have an unforgettable viewing experience.

This comedy movie directed by the Farelly Brothers stars , Rick (Owen Wilson) and Fred (Sudeikis) who are two happily married men who live very average lives which causes them to feel extremely restless. The solution that is given to them by their wives, Jenna Fischer and Christina Applegate, is a week off from marriage. For the two men this means that they have seven days to have a blast and enjoy their time as bachelors once again. If think you can get an idea of the comedy involved by simply watching the trailer you will definitely be in for a surprise because the movie is filled with endless bits of comedy.

As we talk about the Blu-ray version of this comedy movie, the extended or ‘Enlarged’ version as it is being termed, includes expanded footage of the movie that you will not get a chance to watch elsewhere. Additional features of the Blu-ray version also include deleted scenes, a gag reel and a lot more. There is certainly an added advantage of watching the movie on Blu-ray which includes watching the much anticipated extended version, enjoying the high quality and availing the bonus features.

Many of us would agree that Drive Angry is somewhat of a stupid movie, but this is what makes it fun to watch. If you haven’t yet managed to enjoy the craziness of this movie, here is your lucky chance to own the movie on Blu-ray.

When it comes to Blu-ray movies, they mostly look really good in 1080p and the same is the case with ‘Drive Angry’. Along with its picture quality, the 3D is also a treat for the eyes. There are actually quite a lot of points in the movie which need to be watched in 3D to truly enjoy the movie. Best of all, you not only get to watch the movie in the 3D but there are also some eye catching slow motion scenes as well. Watching this movie in 3D right at your home will definitely not be a disappointment. The movie stars Nicolas Cage, Amber Heard, William Fichtner, and Billy Burke.

Moving on to the special features of the Blu-ray disc, there are a few deleted scenes, commentary from the director by the name of ‘Access: Drive Angry’, commentary from the cast and crew and a few behind the scenes featurettes. The commentary featurette from the director and writer of the film, Patrick Lussier, is probably the best special feature of the whole Ble-ray.

Now, we still might think the movie is stupid but there is no doubting that whoever has watched it, most definitely had a lot of fun. Therefore, getting the Blu-ray version of the movie is certainly worth it.
