The Oppo BDP-93 is your all in one package for this current gen. There is a slightly more advanced BDP-95 model for the most extreme audiophiles that is releasing in February, though the 93 is not to be taken lightly. The 93 offers the obvious blu-ray playback as well as Blu-ray 3d playback. Those two specs alone make it a worthy blu-ray player for those looking to buy for the future, though that is far from all.

The BDP-93 is your average to above average audioholic’s dream. This bad boy can play just about everything thrown at it. CDs, SACDs, DVD Audio, DVDs, HDCD, Kodak Picture CD, AVCHD, MP4, DivX, MKV, FLAC, WAV and other audio/video/picture files on recorded discs, USB etc. Hell, even eSATA drives can be played off this. Inclusion of BD Live and BonusView are no problem, and neither is instant streaming for Netflix or Blockbuster On Demand. With connections for ethernet or the option to go wireless this baby is fully functional.

It handles Dolby TrueHD (along with DD, and DD Plus) and DTS HD Master Audio with ease. The BDP-93 supports bit-stream output of DTS-HD Master Audio. It can also internally decode DTS-HD Master Audio and output via HDMI as well as It can internally decode Dolby TrueHD into LPCM and output via HDMI or the 7.1ch analog audio output terminals. DTS-HD High Resolution Audio and DTS Digital Surround are supported as well.

Well here’s something unique in form. Panasonic has just announced the DMR-BR30 blu-ray player that utilizes an removable hard drive. It contains a 500GB hard drive available from Panasonic that records up to 450 hours of content. Not a fan of deleting stuff? No problem, once its full you can take it out and put in another.

Oh but it doesn’t stop there, the BR30 will also support BDXL discs which can lead up to a minimum of an additional 80 hours of video as well as being capable of burning regular Blu-ray and DVD!

Clocking in at $450 and each hard drive tacking on another $240 can make this unique beast quite expensive!

Earlier this week we reported on the Pioneer Blu-ray 3d player line coming your way, and today we report on the first ever Blu-ray car player. Yes, you read that correct. I remember when I was younger and it was all the rage to have as many screens in your ride as you could pimp out. (or possibly afford) So now you can get to stuntin’ in Hi-def! :p In any case, a trucker or those who go on long drives with the fam might find this more useful and be very interested in this new addition from Audiovox.

Specifically designed to be installed under a seat or behind the seats this blu-ray player can connect to any monitor via HDMI, composite, component. Power for the player comes from a 2-pin 12V connector to the vehicles accessory power source and boasts a full function IR remote.

I know, I know … if your not thinking “Why the hell would I need this?” You may be thinking “How the heck would this remote work from the front seat?” Well … The player also includes an 18-foot IR extension to allow for control of the player while its out of sight. The player is set to get a firmware update to boast wi-fi as well this year. So if your a trucker, you could be enjoying wi-fi netflix at the truck stop I suppose. Ships in spring for a retail price point of $349.99.

Ah, the good ol’ reliable Pioneer players. One thing that has remained constant with all the different brands entering the blu-ray player market is that Pioneer still drops quality hardware. They’ve done it for longer then some fans have been alive. Their DVD players were always of quality and their blu-ray players have been as well. Finally, Pioneer has announced 3 players to feature Blu-ray 3d capability. The BDP-430, BDP-41FD, and the BDP-43FD.

The players all feature wi-fi readyness, streaming capability, and support for a new iphone application. All the players utilize the new 1.4 HDMI standard for 3D to support the needed bandwidth. In addition, the players have a unique to Pioneer “Pure Cinema” mode that can upconvert SD to 1080p! Keyword on some of the above aforementioned details is wi-fi readyness. Ie. The players require a wi-fi adapter if you are not hard wired. The Price range on these bad boys? The BDP-430 clocks in at $299, the Elite BDP-41FD for $399, and the big bad voodoo daddy BDP-43FD burns the wallet for $499.

Check the full press release below.

Panasonic, a worldwide leader in Full HD 3D technology, today announced the debut of its first Full HD 3D Blu-ray™ Disc home theater systems, providing the ultimate immersive 3D movie experience at home. The two new home theater systems, models, SC-BTT750 and SC-BTT350, employ advanced proprietary technology to envelop viewers in a remarkably authentic home theater experience and step into the 3D world.

Networking and connectivity capabilities abound with the new models through VIERA CASTTM compatibility, which provides access to new online content from Netflix,TM Amazon Video on Demand TM, YouTubeTM, PicasaTM, Bloomberg TVTM , weather information and other services. The top-of-the-line SC-BTT750 is equipped with a wireless LAN adaptor, which plugs into the USB terminal to deliver online video streaming without a LAN cable so the system can be installed without the need for any complicated wires. The SC-BTT350 is wireless LAN-ready and can be enjoyed wirelessly by linking to a Wireless LAN adaptor, DY-WL10*. (Requires Broadband Internet Service)

The SC-BTT750 system is equipped with sleek Tall Boy speakers and a stylishly slim center channel speaker, which employ advanced bamboo cone to suppress unwanted acoustic reflections and achieve clear vocals and pure, high quality sound that is not overwhelmed by sound effects. It also boasts a Kelton-type subwoofer which, due to its distinctive design, drives a powerful reverberating bass in spite of its small, compact size. The SC-BTT350 features four satellite speakers, a center channel speaker and a subwoofer. Both systems deliver 5.1-channel sound and virtual 7.1-channel surround to reproduce the dynamic sounds that further enhance the enjoyment of 3D entertainment.

Connection and installation could not be easier, thanks to the systems’ compatibility with ARC (Audio Return Channel), which allows receiving audio signals from the TV. Simply place it by any ARC compatible television, and connect it with just one HDMI cable.

Each of the models features an integrated Universal Dock for iPod/iPhone**, making it easy for users to play their favorite music and video downloads. And both systems feature an SD Memory Card slot for viewing still images, slide shows and movie files.

To achieve True to Cinema picture quality, both of these models incorporate the PHL Reference Chroma Processor Plus, developed at the Panasonic Hollywood Laboratory. This high precision processing technology reproduces clear, vibrant colors that are extremely faithful to the original film.

The SC-BTT750 and SC-BTT350 both offer rear wireless speaker capability with purchase of the optional SH-FX71 Wireless Kit for Rear Speakers.

Panasonic’s new Full HD 3D Blu-ray Disc Home Theater systems will be available in September.

At CES 2010 the S370 and S570 were shown but the S470 was absent. Fear not, the 470 has shown up and its their first 3D capable Blu-ray player. Expected is not only Blu-ray and 3D blu-ray playback but streaming 3D programs with Dolby TrueHD and DTS HD audio decoding. The player boasts, DVD upscaling, a USB port, SACD playback and compatibility with the Sony BD Remote iPhone app. To top it all off though, is the amazing door buster price (at least for this high tech.) All for $200!

Besides their not being true 3D discs out on the market yet, you wont be able to take advantage of this incredible feature anyways until the firmware is out. The 3D firmware can also be applied to the aforementioned BDP-S570 plus the BDV-E770W and BDV-E570, granting them all with 3D playback.

Pre-order/Purchase Sony BDP-S470 Blu-ray Disc Player

If this sensible pricing continues through the displays, players, and glasses, then 3D may have a strong chance from the start after all.

More features listed below:

•	Blu-ray 3D playback capability
•	BRAVIA Internet Video: Access movies, music, videos & more
•	iPhone/iPod touch BD Remote
•	Quick Start/Load to watch movies faster than ever
•	BRAVIA Monolithic matching design for clean esthetics

Bad pun. Okay, worse than my usual puns.

Simply put, LG has introduced the first serious Blu Ray player with a hard disk, unless of course you consider the PS3 a ‘serious Blu Ray player’. If you’re serious about the Blu Ray with HDD part, have a serious look at this one. Why so serious?

On a more serious note (Okay, no more…), though, the LG BD590, debuting at CES 2010, has some important implications for the home Blu Ray experience.

Now you can rip your CDs to the 250 GB hard disk on the BD590. Though for some movie buffs like me, that storage capacity may look like peanuts, I’m sure the average family doesn’t need a lot more than that. From what I understand about average families. Right, John?

You can also store your MP3s, photos, and home video – which can be transferred in either through USB or Ethernet, although not the inbuilt WiFi. LG’s own NetCast Entertainment Access platform allows you to download movies from vudu. The pictures and home videos can be viewed on your HDTV with the help of LG’s inbuilt Digital Living Network Alliance (DLNA) functionality It also helps to access home videos and pictures on DLNA-enabled systems. Your music collection can be archived onto the BD590 using the Gracenote-powered MusicID feature.

A major grouse I have is the absence of DVD and Blu Ray ripping..it IS 2010 after all. I guess LG have played safe with the MPAA – besides, 250 GB would hardly hold more than 4 good Blu Ray RAW rips. Another issue I’ve had, given the fascination that Sony, Panasonic, AMD, NVidia and even the BDA have had with Blu Ray 3D, is that the BD590, coming later this year, promises no 3D at all.

But any comparisons to the PS3 may be laid to rest, since the A/V quality will be miles ahead. Hopefully, the price won’t be, since they haven’t said anything about that.
