Really nice design, but this movie does nothing for me at all. This might be the first PLAIN release I sit out on. And then I won't be getting Mommy and I Killed My Mother either. My PLAIN collection is falling apart :ohno:

Yeah, this is a surprising choice from PA. I'm actually a sucker for period films like this, especially when they're based on Austen's books--but this is a tepid, superficial, forgettable film. It's not well-regarded critically either, which I think will be a first for PA.
Kind of weird too, since Twilight Time just announced their next month's lineup of Exclusive blu rays includes Sense and Sensibility. That would have been a better fit for this packaging- and an Oscar winner to boot.

No doubt! The best of all the Austen adaptations. Didn't know about the Twilight Time release, that's an instant purchase for me.

Ok, I love Plain Archive and everything they do, their attention to detail in design and focus on title choices that they respect and admire is something that I have a lot of love for, and I have no doubt that this release is going to be just as gorgeous as all of their previous efforts. But I have to say, and maybe its just me, but it seems their release schedule is getting a little out of control. Including this new announcement it means we now have:

Becoming Jane
The Act of Killing
Oldboy
Ernest & Celestine
Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy
The Imitation Game
A Most Wanted Man
Foxcatcher
Still Alice
Mommy
I Killed My Mother
The Immigrant
Om Shanti Om
Rudderless
Tinker Ticker

That's 15 titles that have been announced and yet to be released/gone up for pre-order, and if you include their upcoming 2nd release of Blue is the Warmest Color, it rises to 16. I'm actually not even sure I've remembered them all, I may have missed one or two announcements but its becoming quite hard to keep track. In the almost 2 years since they started, Plain have only released 13 titles and that's if you include the recently gone up for pre-order Frank. An example of what I mean is Oldboy, which was first teased on their facebook page way back when they started getting ready to ship The Wrestler, (their very first release) and it was supposed to be released to celebrate the films 10th anniversary (2004 - 2014) which was now well over a year ago. I love P.A and everything they do, because I have huge respect for their choice of titles and because it is so obvious that they love what they do, it shows in every aspect of all their releases to date. But they need to do just that, stop announcing whats to come and actually release some of them. Because if you go by their rate of production up to this date, its going to take them a little over two years to release all the titles listed above, and that's not including any more titles that could also be announced in those two years.
May be they're trying to be a retailer who can release one exclusive per month? It wouldn't surprise me. Nothing wrong with it either, as long as quality doesn't suffer.

Once they have 30+ titles it wont matter even if you don't have every single release. I think people bought every single before because PA was still a small company with less than 15 exclusives, so in order to have your 'PLAIN collection' you had to buy every release. And to show support for their awesome releases. Now, even if you have 10-15 out of 30 releases, you can still call it your 'PLAIN collection' :D:thumbs:

totally agree. same goes for FAC too. that's why I only buy releases I like. few years to come FAC, PA and others have so big catalogue that it's pointless to have em all unless you really like the film/relase.

not familiar with the film, will check it out. but the spine is gorgeus.

...but let's not compare TT and PA.

:naughty:

a sad fact is that TT's eng subs (on latest releases, older are spot on) are sub par. just watched Missippi Burning and it was terrible experience. even so that I wrote them. never got reply. not good.

I prefer knowing in advance so I don't go out and buy it randomly and then have to buy the PA release too..

Oh my goodness, Anne Hathaway looks so hot in that artwork. I just want to give her a big wet kiss ;)

Can't wait for this! I have 100% faith in any film PA chooses. Watching the films PA releases is like taking a masters course in film review, can't wait for this one. And this edition look absolulty amazing!

Although not brilliant, it's a reasonable film, but that slip is just STUNNING!!!! Instant purchase for me, gotta keep my Hathaway collection up to date.

I think this cover is brilliant, really well done (ah, imagine the feel of this slip!), but I must admit I do miss having James McAvoy in the picture... somewhere, anywhere... :shy::drool:

Perhaps the movie really isn't for everyone's taste (but then again, which film is?), and I'm also one of those who aren't the biggest fans of having Anne cast as Jane (Kate Winslet or Keira Knightley would be perfect), but the rest of the cast were absolutely stunning, the music was amazing (omg, that dance scene), the costumes wonderful and, of course, McAvoy was intense as always. Despite being a huge Austen fan, it doesn't bother me one bit that this particular story ''isn't true to actual events'' - I mean, it's their interpretation and I like it. Very much so. And the ending pretty much leaves me in tears every single time (but then again, so does Alien Resurrection). No spoilers, but it's not exactly happily ever after.

I'll definitely have to pick up 2 copies of this one, because once I open one, it won't last long :joy:
