Best/worst book to screenplay/screen adaptation?

Can there be a tie? I think The Social Network was great and so was the book The Accidental Billionaires. Hard to choose a clear cut "winner" sometimes.

Shouldn't we re-name the title so it covers both ways?

"The book was better than the movie or the other way around" or something like that?

I can't believe no one mentioned Fight Club. Even Chuck Palahniuk (the author) said something to the effect that the screenplay is the version of the book he wished he'd written.

And Full Metal Jacket comes close to being as good as it's source material (The Short-Timers). Though all of the best dialogue was ripped straight from the novel.

Well, the 2014 Endless Love is a terrible adaptation of the book. The only thing it keeps from the book is sex by a fireplace and a house fire.

Always thought that Michael Crichton's Timeline could have been SO much better. The script was too rushed and some of the stars played their roles terribly.
