I'm just curious what other collectors think about that question.

If you have $300 spending for steelbook, then what would you do?

Buy the holy grail steelbook like (Iron Man Futureshop, Rambo, etc) that you have been wanting to add

or

do you buy 6 individual steelbook at a price of $50 each.

I'm curious what you would do in that situation....

I see some members making comments like "I can't afford it", but then I see them with 50+ steelbooks in their collection.

Well I gotta say that the majority of those who posted and voted 6 over 1 already own the holy grail (IM / Rambo) so that is kinda wrong voting, I would def go for quality over quantity not just with steelbooks but everything from clothes to furniture etc, that's just the way I am. If I already own my holy grail then there is no need in splashing crazy money on a title that does not interest me, so I simply pass, IM / T2 2.0 & LTBF are my latest Holy Grail additions and I got them not because they were sought after within' the steelbook community or to show off, no!! it's simply because I am a huge 'IM 'Marvel' / Terminator / Asian Movie' fan and missed out on them when they were first released, they will be cherished and appreciated in my collection, now I would never go and spend that kinda money on Romeo & Juliet/Moulin Rouge Ironpaks as they are not my type of films... I still own a lot of DVD LEs that cost me arm and leg back in the day (most are Japanese LEs I bought from day one), these may not be worth much now but in my eyes they are as they are priceless.

if you were to twist my arm i'd say holy grail but if i ever got bored with it or needed some cash i'd sell it & double my money :hilarious:

I mean, if I really really wanted a steelbook badly, I would pay $300 for it. I was ready to pay about 150€ for a sealed IB (FS), but was lucky to find one for $19.95. The only realistic holy grails are IM and JR. IM would be nice, but its just not important enough (I'm happy with the 1+2 steelbook and could always get the 2 individual German ones) and JR I really don't care about. I'm happy to (over-) pay if I love the movie, but I already have Pulp Fiction, Reservoir Dogs, Shawshank Redemption, Trainspotting, Casino, Heat, Watchmen,... and if a movie I love comes out on steel in the future I will get it before the price gets too high.

I have some rare steels that I don't really care about (Death Race MM, Halloween, Resident Evil,...), but I got them for a good price - even if I found JR for $20 I would sell it straight away...

I must admit that I'm surprised by the vote result. I expected more people would vote for the holy grail. But, it seems more people rather not spend a lot of money on 1 steelbook.

When I started collecting steelbook as a hobby, I had to buy the best of the best = Iron Man FS at the time. It was tough for me to pay $200 for it. Since I enjoyed this hobby so much, I had to own that steelbook. I loved the movie and steelbook was so sexy to look at.

I can't imagine not owning "my holy grail" in this hobby. If I ever sell Iron Man FS away, then I might as well sell everything and find a new hobby. It's not the same anymore without my holy grail.

Like DJHilalo's comment, I believe in quality over quantity. It is very true for me.

I rather own 1 Ferarri Enzo vs. 500 Honda Civic. :)

Hey May-I think there are all kinds of collectors out there. Some collect for rarity, others to own the movies they like in an 'upgraded' cases, others do it for a combination of both. I am not sure there is 1 answer-our forum has collectors of all varieties, extremities, and preferences. I think each person has to decide what works best for them-if you enjoy your style of collecting, eat it up! :scat:

If you gave me $300 for steels I'd put it towards a sealed iron man. If I could even find one.

But I'd be perfectly content with three semi rare steels for $100 or so each.

I'm to the point where I'm done being an overwhelmed noob and am now being pretty selective about wants. A lot of the $100 range steels are the ones I actually like best. I have no desire to ever own John Rambo or T2 v2.0 unless they were insanely good deals.

So it just depends. But for the poll I'll vote holy grail :)

1 holy grail steelbook for me, as i Love i LOVE to have collectors items with a high value, im proud of having them in my collection. I display the most rare things i have, the other steelbooks or collectors editions are just stacked as normal blu-rays or DVDs lol.

But there is always a limit on what i would spend on an item :)

I don't have to spend any more on rare/holy grails. My rare wishlist is finally clear.

Will spend $300 for 6 instead.

My rare wishlist is not over yet, still looking for the 2 rare IronPacks from China :(

BUT! I'll never pay $300 for either of them, not even both! Who knows, maybe I'll strike gold again.

One thing I have for me to help save money: being patient.

I really do not know what to answer on this! So i do not know what to vote

There are not many SBs that i would pay more than 70-80!
The only one that could/would be my Holy Grail would be an Iron Man FS!
But not sure if i would pay 300 $ for that!!! Even if it was the 300 i get as a present from May's big lottery win :D

But wait a minute.... May if you win and have that sealed IM for me, just PM me and i will give you my adress...

Guys just because U already own your holy grail steelbook it doesn't mean you have to vote for 6 steelbooks instead of 1 HG :hilarious:

The point here is had U NOT own it what would you do to get it (assuming U like the film and it's not in your budget)!! would U take those flimsy rerelease steelbooks over it or would you save up and go for your HG once and for all... every1 has at least 1 or 2 HG, not like a looooong list of them hehe

most I ever spent on a steelbook was $85 with shipping, lol... so no. Most in my collection are $35 and under per steel. So I would rather get 6 regular ones.

well i said spend it on 6 steelbooks as this aint the holy grail no more, who said that. think Iron man FS has taken that crown recently.

I think the biggest problem I've seen is that no holy grail is really safe. There is no guarantee that the studio won't reprint a design at any time.

Obviously, some studios are very good on altering their design and making sure that the steelbook is different than the first one that they printed.

But I guess the last time I paid a premium for a "rare" steel was the I Am Legend (Germany), first print. And not 3 months later, there was a reprint with the exact same art. EEK! :(

I told myself I'd rather have x steelbooks than over spend on a steelbook ever again and potentially have it be worth much less than I paid.

Of course, I'm in a different position than many folks as I was able to get some of the early ones close to cost.

Boy, its hard to get a steel for $35.00 now. Only if you have a store nearby. Most steels cost 25 bucks. Add 13% tax and ship to England for 18.00. Getting close to 50 bucks.
