Deadpool sequel already in the works (via The Hollywood Reporter)

Fox is betting that audiences will not get a load of Deadpool when the movie opens this weekend but will immediately want more, which is why the studio is already working on a sequel.

Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick, who wrote Deadpool, are writing the script for a follow-up, which has already been greenlighted, insiders tell The Hollywood Reporter.

The fact that a sequel is in the works should not be a surprise at this point. Deadpool is tracking to open to at least $65 million over the upcoming four-day holiday weekend, with some estimates pointing north of $70 million.

Tim Miller directed Deadpool and although is he has not signed on to helm the sequel, Fox is intent on keeping the creative team together.

Reese, Wernick and Miller, as well as star Ryan Reynolds, have fought an uphill battle within the studio system to get the movie made, forging themselves into a compact unit. Wernick and Reese, who also acted as executive producers on the movie, remained on board throughout the development and production, a rarity in a system that interchanges scribes at high rates.

Deadpool is an R-rated action comedy based on an irreverent Marvel Comics character who is part of the universe of X-Men heroes, to which Fox has the license.

Reese and Wernick’s other credits include Zombieland and G.I. Joe: Retaliation. The duo is repped by WME and Hansen Jacobson.

@AlienKing we know they are going to do one, but don't think you taking the pee a bit creating a thread when the first hasn't even finished in the cinema this will be at least 2-3 years away even if fast tracked :rolleyes::rolleyes:

Stephen Lang wants to play Cable in the Deadpool sequel (via Peeltheorange)

So with Deadpool massively exceeding box office predictions, the studio have already green-lit a sequel and promised it will definitely feature Wade’s long term sparring partner, Cable.

There’s been a number of names banded round of late for who might play Cable, including Jon Hamm and Ron Perlman, and this week saw a surprising addition to the race.

‘Avatar’ star Stephen Lang has taken to Twitter to advertise his interest in the role. A veteran actor, with a number of other notable sci-fi roles under his belt, Lang’s photo was immediately supported by some mocked up fan-art, seemingly endorsing his candidacy:

Absolutely not. As soon as a movie is confirmed, why not create a thread to discuss it? Isn't that the purpose? :)
There are many other threads here for movies that are in the early stages of development, and while some are indefinitely on hold. Are you suggesting they should all be taken down? ;)

Ryan Reynolds Confirms Deadpool 2 Script Is Well Underway

Comicbook reports:

Deadpool star Ryan Reynolds has assured fans that scriptwriting for Deadpool 2 is already underway.

"We are on a script, we are well into a script," Reynolds told Empire's podcast. Fox is likely eager to put the mercenary back to work with how well he’s currently doing at the box office.

Reynolds also talked about some of the changes the script for the first Deadpool went through.

"We had endless [conversations about other X-Men]. Taskmaster was in the script originally, too expensive. We had versions where we wanted Hugh Jackman in there, we wanted all kinds of cameos from different people, but it just becomes a big mess for the studio,” he said.

"We went through such hell developing the script and which X-Men we could keep and which we couldn't and it just turned into a nightmare," Reynolds said. "The studio would just say, 'too expensive, too expensive, too expensive' to everyone. So finally we were like well, 'what about Negasonic Teenage Warhead' and they said, 'Negasonic, what?'"

Will it be called SkullPoopL, Too! ?
(I alway enjoyed the sequels that had the Intellectual wit to use 'Too!' Instead of '2'. C'mon - you know if Bill Shakespeare was still alive he would go with "MacBeth, Too!", right?)
