I have heard nothing but excellent things (plus it's a Gong Li film... ), and since Criterion has shown very limited interest in contemporary Chinese films, I would suspect that the Chinese BD would be an excellent investment, unless the subtitles are unacceptable--hopefully toddly can fill us in on that.

It's supposed to be an excellent movie but if this bluray features Chinglish at its finest, it will most likely transform an "A" film into a "C-" film. I read that the Chinese DVD versions had awful English subs, so im not going to buy this until I hear information about the English subs.
