hmmmm can't seem to make up my mind between this and the french one, i'm firmly sat on the fence over this

if hmv one had tracks embossed i would go for this but if the french one was glossed i'd be all over that does anyone have any thoughts as this is starting to bug me now.

french one is out on 23 feb this one is just listed as feb/march just wish staff could get some more info out of hmv with finishing and release date etc to help make my mind up!

its just last hmv steel quailty i had (dent under j-card) is steering me towards the french one.

help please :dunno:

I saw this last night, and it was great.
The regular UK blu-ray release is also 23rd Feb, so the steelbook will be released the same time.
I think the HMV steebook will be better quality (finish wise) as most late HMV excl. steels have had some sort of gloss and/or embossing/debossing.
I wouldn't expect the French one to be very good for that price (and the spine is the wrong way also)
But this is just my opinion, and I could be very wrong.
I'm gonna wait for pics before I decide...

@Basil Ultimately, it's all down to personal choice.

I have the French Steelbook on order. The clincher for me was the price of EUR 14.99 (£12) and I prefer its artwork to that of the HMV one. That said, if the HMV Steelbook retains this unique artwork, I may well double dip, providing the price is reasonable.

Incidentally, you only have until the 31st December to make up your mind about the French Steelbook as the offer price of EUR 14.99 is only valid until then. The same applies to "The Equalizer".

@djs1401 It's a Special Offer Price valid until the 31st December and has nothing to do with the quality of the Steelbook.

I have other French Sony Steelbooks in my collection and their quality is every bit as good as those available elsewhere, including the UK.

I accept that the spine reads differently to what we in the Anglo-Saxon world are used to but it doesn't particularly bother me, although many here feel differently.

Personally, having not seen the film or even a trailer for it, I prefer this artwork to the FR. I think that with the right embossing/debossing and glossing, this could look brilliant. Imagine if they did the tracks on this like Godzirra's tail! Yes, I realise that was a futurepak and this is a steelbook, but it should be possible.

the french version looks like pitt being a little slutty and modelling to sell an after shave called pipe lol,
the hmv version is defo more suitable for the movie and the artwork is better,,

Agreed. Just wish they still had an online store.
Ditto! I've had to pass on their last three exclusive steels (X-Men, Edge of Tomorrow, Dawn of the Apes) because I don't live near an HMV store. :(

Will definitely have to travel to an HMV to get this one though... hopefully the three I mentioned above will still be in stock then too. :ohno:

I went and got X-Men & DotPotA. Got a couple stores near me, but I'm just lazy :p. They should have a ton of them as when I went to get my last three (those two mentioned and The Amazing Spider-Man 2), they had a load.

If there's one you desperately want in future. Gimme a shout and I can pick one up if I'm in for it myself.

Is HMV actively trying to not be a part of 21st Century commerce?! Their business model here baffles the brain.

They could make more money with an online store and sell their goods to the world and not just foot traffic in London, etc. Not having an online store in this day and age is retail suicide.

I agree it's a bit bizarre that they chose to keep their stores open and close their site for trading in these modern times. I think they would generate a lot more revenue operating that way too. Saying that, they have been around for many years and are pretty much the last standing media specialists with shops.

Thanks dude... I appreciate that. I actually almost joined the GB for them, but it annoys me that I'd have to pay extra to get steels from my own country (I'm blaming the retailer, not the GB hosts).

It's not that baffling. Their business model is to get people in store and it's working - http://www.telegraph.co.uk/finance/...V-poised-to-reclaim-top-spot-from-Amazon.html
I think that's great, but if they're not going to give us an online store then they need to at least start reopening old stores so everyone has a chance to buy stuff from them.

No worries. I absolutely hate missing out on steels so am more than happy to help fellow collectors. Especially if it saves them paying through the nose and buying them from touts!

hmv could not compete online they got out priced by the bigger boys in the end, they are clever in one sense though they own the high street where they are, when you are out at a weekend no one else to compete with they will get all music and film pounds in the main for when people make impulse buys.

also remember when sainburys did physical media online they decided to go down the download road now as makes them more money and no returns etc and can get rid of warehouses and staff to boot!

think who we have lost over the years on the high street: our price, woolworths, zavvi, whsmith(music &film gone) to name but a few. All down to stupidly high rent and business rates in the end.

only thing that scares me hilco own them they known for either killing or fixing then flogging on to the highest bidder, whats not to say when gets big enough amazon just buy them up, then what competetion will we have??????

anyways back to the steel.

My local WH Smith still has a small section of (expensive) movies and CDs.

have finally decided on the french one as last steel i had out of hmv xmen have a crease dent on edge of where disc on back under j-card could not been seen until unwrapped and would have had to go back would have taken an 40mins each way.
Also lack of info coming out on this is also poor, no info on embossing etc finish.
french one out 23rd feb, canadian one out 27th jan, hmv one still no official release (feb/march) date not good is it? more surprised staff haven't had an update on this one tbh.

The Amaray comes out on Feb 23rd so I'd be surprised if the steelbook isn't the same
