New York, N.Y., July 1, 2015 - The smash hit HBO series Game of Thrones has sat atop the Iron Throne of the home entertainment charts as the best-selling TV on Blu-ray/DVD title in each of the last four years. The box sets are popular among fans for their extensive bonus content that takes diehard viewers even further into the world of Westeros. Now a new Steelbook collectors release is bringing a whole new dimension to the series with the addition of a Dolby Atmos soundtrack and brand new box art designed by the team that created the series' Emmy® Award-winning title sequence. Seasons 1 and 2 will be available in the new Steelbook format for $79.98 each on November 3, 2015, just in time for holiday gifting season. Seasons 3 and 4 will release on the heels of the first two seasons, with release date details coming soon.

The Steelbook sets feature brand new box art designed by Elastic, the agency responsible for the series' Emmy® Award-winning opening credits. Each Steelbook showcases a specific location that is significant to that season and includes usable magnets on packaging featuring Game of Thrones sigils and symbols:

o Season 1 packaging features Winterfell, where fans are introduced to the Stark family in the series premiere. The magnet for Season 1 is the direwolf sigil of House Stark.

o In Season 2, the Lannisters' influence is keenly felt from the Iron Throne and their sigil is included on packaging set in King's Landing, where the season's pivotal Battle of the Blackwater occurs.

o Season 3 features the magnet sigil of House Frey and their ancestral seat of the Twins-the location of this season's infamous Red Wedding.

o Season 4 features the icy landscape of Castle Black and the Wall, where the brothers of the Night's Watch fend off an army of wildlings from the far north. The magnet for this season features a crow and Jon Snow's sword, Longclaw.

In addition to all of the bonus content from the previous Blu-ray sets, the Game of Thrones Steelbook is the first TV on Blu-ray title to be released with the revolutionary new audio technology Dolby Atmos. The Blu-ray features a newly remixed Dolby Atmos soundtrack, which places and moves sounds and music anywhere in the room, including overhead, creating a captivating experience that brings entertainment alive all around the audience. With the new Steelbook set, fans can hear Daenerys's dragons swoop past them and feel the soaring score rise and fall around them. To experience Dolby Atmos at home, Dolby Atmos-enabled AV receivers and additional speakers are required; however, Dolby Atmos soundtracks are fully backward compatible with traditional audio configurations and legacy home entertainment equipment and will automatically play in the best possible way.

FINALLY! Steelbooks for GoT AND with DOLBY ATMOS??? That's amazing
But DAMN that price. Can't afford it for now :(

More importantly, as more seasons get released, what guarantee does any of us have that they will create a matching spines? Not to mention a matching front art. For this reason alone I'm hesitant.
I'm pretty sure, like Breaking Bad, once the series ends, there will be a whole set of steelbooks for GoT. So until then, the exclusive slipcovers will suffice.

and @bloodsnake007 GET IN HERE BRO!!!
@AlienKing I'm here my Ninja Bro! :woot: Thanks for the tag! :notworthy: Those are great questions, but I'm definitely getting these no matter what! I fu**ing love this show!

I'm in, just for Atmos! However, $79 (before tax?) is stupidly high. Especially since I got the complete 5 season set of The Wire (albeit amaray, but a much better show) for £48

If they're priced realistically i'll no doubt pick them up as i was considering the amaray boxsets.................but they have to be priced sensibly, $80 isn't but no doubt supply and demand will dictate the sale price and these coming to market could well lower the price of other editions

I'm not sure about these as steelbooks
If they include all previous content and extras as the standard Blu-ray releases then they have to be Jumbo Steelbooks
Season 1 /Season 2 Season 3/ were 5 Blu-ray discs each

Only one that can not be a Jumbo is Season 4 as its 4 Discs
With 4 Discs its not a Jumbo just a standard steelbook

Jumbo steelbooks can be not the best most of the time

Unless they have come up with a way to have 5 Discs and not be a jumbo I cant see that been changed

True,certainly look like jumbo steelbooks

5th disc might be extras and might just not be included or they've condensed the discs. HBO can fit 4 hour long episodes onto a disc. That's really only 3 discs they need

Its in the press release
Steelbooks
All of the bonus content from the previous Blu-ray sets
No, new special features or documentaries included in these sets

So it will be the same content that's already on the 5 Discs for Season 1/2/3
Season 4 is 4 Discs

That doesn't mean they haven't re-authored the discs to a different configuration though. I can think of a few 2-disc DVDs that got re-released as 1-discers without losing any features.

I'm not keen on the spines of these, are they forming a picture? If so, you'd need to know for sure how many seasons there's going to be otherwise the image could end early or be off-centre if it runs for an extra season or two.

Its possible only if the content can fit but its very rare for a studio to do new discs as it cost money to do so and better cost wise to use existing discs

Its possible they could be like the Hobbit Jumbo Steelbooks

We all should know when released exactly what the steelbooks look like or just before
I'm sure they will already got asked the question how many discs
I'm not even considering pre ordering I will wait until huge price drop as in when they are a bargain price and wait to see if jumbo or not I'm not in a hurry to get these
