Response from ES about the finish they are going for on this release:
There’s an emboss on the title treatment, gloss varnish on the front, cutting out the characters and a dull varnish covering the back.

The red text and red image on the back is also a pantone red, which should be a bright pillar box red.

Businesses that offer steel packaging need to charge a premium

I think it's more simple economics here. The less you have made of something, the more you have to pay for it. If Luke had ordered a run of 4k it would almost certainly have brought the retail price of this below £20. But the company probably can't afford the outlay even though price per unit would be cheaper. Especially when he might end up sitting on unsold stock.

This is actually a proven and effective business model: Pay more per copy but charge more and make sure you sell every last copy. It's a good way to thrive as long as customers will pay the higher prices. Seems to be working so far...

The practice of numbering an edition size and displaying the number is very common across all types of collectables because it appeals to that sector of the market who collect principally on rarity. It's simply a good marketing ploy.

And quite honestly I don't see why anybody would have an issue with it one way or another. Leave it on, peel it off, or unwrap the thing and throw it away - it doesn't matter. The point is that it's there for those who want it. So everybody wins, right? :)

I have no problem, for me it looks tacky, to someone else it will be a holy grail add on. Each to their own!

Anyone know how many remain?

OFF TOPIC .... How do I add a profile picture?

I cal BS. If you want to stay solvent, you have ti make profit which play certainly did. Play and hmv didn't go out of business because of steelbooks, but because they lost money in other products ...

I'm pretty sure it costs a whole lot to get an operation going. We pay premium prices to get a piece of paper on an Asian release, FNAC sticker etc. By the amount sold already, it is quite obvious the pricing won't be an impediment.

I thought the minimum print run for a steelbook was 4k?

Dont think such a thing exists.

We have seen lower than 4k before, even WFRR was 3k. I missed out on that one though :(

and Jack Reacher was supposedly 500, although with the reissues now 1k ... I missed out on that too! :(

Wont be missing out on this, easily best steel version of the film, whether it good or bad I don't know alot of people compare it to Snow White and The Hunstman, and I enjoyed that!

Hansel And Gretel (Blu-ray SteelBook) (Entertainment Store Exclusive) [UK]

Can anyone tell a steelbook noob just what "stickered" means?

It just means it has a sticker on the outer plastic saying what store it came from. In this case ES.
But you can get Future Shop exclusives with them and FNAC.
Just something to tell your copy apart from another store/countries. :scat:

Edit: it seems my phone was quite behind the page. Must. Read. Faster.

I take it you don't collect FNAC editions then? ;)

Um, nope... I've bought a few things from FNAC, but I can't say I ever took much notice of what stickers were on them. From the replies, I'm guessing people like to have stickers because it clarifies it's exclusivity to a certain retailer..? It's good to know that those who actually like the stickers got their prayers answered with this release anyway. :)
