IT WILL TEAR YOUR SOUL APART

Stephen King was once quoted as saying: “I have seen the future of horror… his name is Clive Barker.” That future became reality when, in 1987, Barker unleashed his directorial debut Hellraiser – launching a hit franchise and creating an instant horror icon in the formidable figure of Pinhead.

Barker’s original Hellraiser, based on his novella The Hellbound Heart, follows Kirsty Cotton (Ashley Laurence) as she comes head-to-head with the Cenobites – demonic beings from another realm who are intent on reclaiming the soul of her deviant Uncle Frank.
Picking up immediately after the events of the original Hellraiser, Hellbound: Hellraiser II finds Kirsty detained at a psychiatric institute and under the care of Phillip Channard, a doctor who abuses his position to realise his own dark aims. In Hellraiser III: Hell on Earth, a reporter investigating a mysterious death at a nightclub finds herself in the way of Pinhead and the Cenobites, who plan to bring their horrifying world into our own.
Coming at a time when the genre was degenerating into self-parody, Hellraiser offered a fiercely unique vision that approached its horrors with a far greater degree of seriousness than many of its contemporaries.. Along with its sequels, the Barker-produced Hellbound and Hell on Earth, Arrow Video is proud to present some of the most terrifyingly original films in the history of horror in brand new 2K transfers.

This set is very nice, I have the UK edition and it has a ton of extras. Plus the quality of it is top notch, they put a lot of patience and hard work into the creation of these scarlet boxes.

I think it is kind of crappy of them to do this.
They should release the UK and US versions simultaneously. Many people ended up spending quite a few extra dollars to secure the box (which became a hard to find commodity) - and now here it is again at probably half what they ended up thinking they had to spend since it was a supposedly a finite release.
This is dirty pool. And the argument that the first release was exclusive "only for Europe" is playing fast and loose with semantics. "Regional exclusivity" is just bullcrap. I know a lot of folks are gonna be a little upset that they didn't have to spend an extra $100 to scalpers after all.
*(for the record, I paid slightly more than cost - but I know folks who paid much more).*

Arrow at the time of the UK release did not have the distribution rights for a USA release so they could not do a dual UK/USA release.

Arrow managed to get distribution rights for the USA just recently that is why it's now got a USA release but it is region A Locked
Lot of customers in USA who imported the UK release could not play the Discs as the UK release was region B locked

Distributions rights are a problem for lots of distributors when the rights are with another distributor in another country you have to wait till those rights expire or you manage to do a deal to get permission from the other distributor to do a release most times the other distributor won't do a deal if they still hold the distribution rights or the deal they are willing to accept is not a good deal for the other distributor

Well, it makes a little more sense if they were busy trying to get the rights for US distribution...
But still feels a little suspect.:cautious:

Nothing suspect if they had of been able to release same time as UK they would have done so and sold more at the time it can be a minefield distribution rights when doing any release some are easy to arrange and others you get a big no if the other distributor still hold the rights.
It's the same for some other arrow video releases Arrow can only do USA release with some releases because they don't have the UK rights.

Sometimes you wait a long time for rights to expire and by the time you are in a position to get the rights a release might not be worth it unless it's a high demand title

It's a big success for Arrow that they arrived on the US market. Arrow and Criterion biting each other on titles. When you see how limited Criterion in the UK is vice versa is Arrow on the US market.
I love both companies equally but Criterion got more movies of my interest to offer. Both doing great Boxsets and great Keep Case releases. At the moment I prefer both over any Steel.

The Scarlet Box is something every collector should get. It's worth every penny you spend. And Amazon US will probably lower the price near release time..

What exactly was the difference between the scarlet box and the trilogy blu ray release shortly after? Are the 3 movie discs the same and therefore have the same special features or are they different with more features in this set?

I dont really care for the Clive Barker legacy disc or the extras in the set other than the special features for the actual movies

I been looking to pick this up on Ebay, glad i held off.

BTW Amazon shows DVD, is that still the pre order for the blu ray?

Yes it is bluray. Amazon just needs to correct the listing. Hopefully should be more preorders up this week and perhaps price drops.

Up on amazon.ca now and cheaper by far for the USA release so cancelled .com and reordered .ca

Seeing as I'm in Canada makes much more sense with no exchange on currency and free shipping.

Jump on it if you're from canada... not sure how long the sale price will last.
