A planet is discovered in the same orbit as Earth's but is located on the exact opposite side of the sun, making it not visible from Earth. The European Space Exploration Council decide to send American astronaut Glenn Ross and British scientist John Kane via spaceship to explore the other planet. After a disastrous crash-landing Ross awakes to learn that Kane lies near death and that they apparently have returned to Earth, as evidenced by the presence of the Council director and his staff. Released to the custody of his wife, he soon learns things are not as they seem.

Is there a second Earth? As researchers discover the 21st century a planet orbiting the sun at the same distance as the Earth, one of the greatest hopes of humanity for gripping seems close. An astronaut team will be dispatched with a space shuttle, to explore the new world. What first begins as a purely scientific mission, is for the astronauts into a nightmare because of the new planet turns out to be a twin world of earth, in the currently applicable laws of human imagination are put to the test. (1 Blu-ray) ACCIDENT IN SPACE is dedicated dystopian film visions of the late 60s and 70s, which were influenced by the pioneering spirit of the space as well as of the latent fear of the unknown in the vastness of space. Master director Robert Parrish (CASINO ROYALE, PLAY WITH FIRE) succeeded on this basis a gloomy science fiction classic, the genial constitutes threatening yet fascinating idea of a second Earth with original and complex special effects scene and thus films like ANOTHER EARTH (2011) paved the way.

The original title in the UK is, of course Doppelganger - they changed it for the US, after a market research campaign due to the fact that the majority of Americans they asked hadn't a clue what 'Doppelganger' meant.

Which in turn makes it an absolute mystery as to why the Germans would use the American market title . . . .

I picked it up last week. Superb steelbook and superb pressing. Contains both German and English soundtrack and English and German subtitles. Also a running commentary from Gerry Anderson. Well if you watch the film The German title actually makes sense. And lets be honest Doppelganger is a German word meaning Evil Twin so again it wouldn't make sense in the context of the film and would certainly confuse a German audience with such a title and expectations.

Thats really inapproopriate, if they don't know/understand a word, just change the title(the word will stay a mystery), its not as if the title was in an another language it would have make sense. The second time i came across a title change after the Harry Potter 1st title.

Doppelganger can mean lots of things, Apparition, a Ghostly Double, or quite simply the Double of a living person. No German audience would struggle to make sense of the original title.

My mate in work speaks fluent German and he says in his home language it does mean literally evil twin. That's its common meaning there.
