It was inevitable that Matthew Vaughn's big-screen version of the John Romita Jr. and Mark Millar comic "Kick-Ass" would get the green light for a sequel. Today it's been confirmed apparently by Millar himself on a radio station in the UK who claimed that due to the wonderful DVD sales the sequel is a go.

It's not really a surprise when you think about it. Sure, it didn't perform incredibly well like people thought it would in the box office, but it seemed destined to be one of those comic book flicks that would find it's audience on home video. Since this is all up and running, now it's a matter of the studio bringing back Vaughn and the cast to the new project.

At the moment Matthew Vaughn is in the middle of filming "X-Men: First Class" for 20th Century Fox which acts as a '60s set prequel, out in theaters on June 3rd, 2011. "Kick-Ass" star Aaron Johnson will be appearing next in Sam Taylor-Wood directed film "Nowhere Boy". Chloe Moretz is in the middle of filming her role in Martin Scorsese's "Hugo Cabret" and will be seen in Matt Reeves' "Let Me In" this October 8th.

Some new info I saw here:

Universal Pictures is in talks with Matthew Vaughn to develop a sequel to Kick-Ass, the adaptation of the Mark Millar and John Romita, Jr. comic which earned $96.2 million worldwide on a budget of $30 million in 2010, says Heat Vision.

Lionsgate distributed the first film, which was directed, produced and self-financed by Vaughn. He is producing the sequel and has picked Never Back Down helmer Jeff Wadlow to direct the sequel.

The site adds that Vaughn wrote the script for the follow-up, which adapts not only "Kick-Ass 2," but also the "Hit-Girl" spin-off that hits stores next month. The Hit-Girl storyline will be the first act of the movie.

A September starts is being eyed for the film, which would have Aaron Johnson, Chloe Moretz and Christopher Mintz-Plasse reprise their roles.

Jeff Wadlow will direct Kick-Ass 2, which will begin shooting this September in Toronto and London. Aaron Johnson, Chloe Grace Moretz and Christopher Mintz-Plasse are all set to return, and we had our first cast addition in John Leguizamo the other day. A casting call has also gone out for the character "Mother Russia", so expect a bit of news on that soon enough.

We'll have to wait and see for Cage...

June 28 Release date, saw it Here
The biggest release-date news is probably for Kick-Ass 2, the sequel to 2010′s dark superhero action-comedy. The first Kick-Ass had a good-not-great run in theaters, earning about $50 million with an April release date. With Kick-Ass 2, the franchise has been promoted to summertime, and will arrive in theaters on June 28.
