Aronofsky in the Running to Direct Superman
Source: Heat Vision September 28, 2010

Black Swan helmer Darren Aronofsky has joined the list of potential directors for Warner Bros.' new Superman movie, reports Heat Vision.

The list includes Duncan Jones, Jonathan Liebesman, Matt Reeves, Tony Scott and Zack Snyder. The trade adds that Ben Affleck was also briefly in the running but he is reportedly no longer pursuing the job.

Aronofsky is said to be in active talks, though it's early.

Christopher Nolan and Emma Thomas will executive produce the film, targeted for a 2012 release.

'Superman' storyline revealed?

Storyline details for Zack Snyder and Christopher Nolan's Superman revamp have emerged.

David Goyer's superhero script will allegedly follow journalist Clark Kent as he travels the world and must decide whether or not he wants to become Superman. Recent reports also claimed that General Zod will be the film's villain.

Director Snyder, who held off competition from Darren Aronofsky to secure the Superman job, has reportedly expressed concerns about Goyer's story.

According to Vulture, the script was rushed through and has been described as "a bit of a mess". Snyder allegedly signed up to direct because Warner Bros. believes he will be able to rectify the problems quickly.

Warner Bros. is planning to have a new Superman in production by next year - in order to avoid potential lawsuits from the heirs of the Man of Steel's creators - to make a 2012 release.

Superman for the Twilight Generation

Like Superman's new look? According to insiders this is going to be Superman's new look in the soon to be released movie.

This is the cover for the graphic novel will re-tell the Superman origin story, but with a Twilight/hipster-esque vibe to it.

DC Comics co-publisher Dan DiDio said about the graphic novel: "We wanted to tell a story that's hip, sexy, and moody."

So do his eyes shoot beams of glitter to get the party started?

Per Geek of Tyrant:

"Zack Snyder announced today that Amy Adams has been officially cast in the role of Lois Lane in the Superman reboot according to the LA Times. The 36-year old actress has been nominated for an Oscar three times, most recently for her role in The Fighter for David O. Russell. She was previously nominated for the indie film Junebug and for her role in Doubt, starring opposite Meryl Streep and Philip Seymour Hoffman. She has also starred in Enchanted, Julia & Julia, Night at the Museum: Battle of the Smithsonian and Leap Year. She will be seen in The Muppets next opposite Jason Seagal and has a supporting role in Walter Salles' On the Road.

"There was a big, giant search for Lois. For us it was a big thing and obviously a really important role. We did a lot of auditioning but we had this meeting with Amy Adams and after that I just felt she was perfect for it.”

Snyder went on to mention that they plan to make Lane relevant to today's audiences is a top priority. Of course, major plot details were not discussed in the interview. It is not known if Lane's character will be a love interest for Clark Kent/Superman. There is a definite age difference between Cavill at 27 and Adams at 36, but not one that makes a difference to me.

The cast lined up so far is great, Adams is a great addition. The film is expected to start production in August and is slated for a late 2012 release.

German actress cast as villain:

Per News in Film:

German actress Antje Traue (Pandorum) has been cast as a Superman villainess in Zack Snyder’s Man of Steel. Traue, 30, will play Faora, the basis for Superman II man-hater Ursa. As Variety points out, there are several versions of the character in Action Comics lore. The first is a Kryptonian serial killer, martial artist, and torturer of men who is imprisoned in the Phantom Zone, along with General Zod (to be played by Michael Shannon in the upcoming reboot), and, as a result, survives the destruction of her home world. But Faora is Zod’s enemy in the prisoner’s realm, so this version seems unlikely for the December 2012 release.
However, in July 2001’s Action Comics #779 Faora is a “metahuman,” or super-powered mutant, and an aide to General Zod’s nefarious plot to unleash a mutagenic virus on Earth.
Traue is a virtual unknown in the States, but she played a supporting role in the sci-fi horror film Pandorum — I don’t recommend it. Deadline also reports Traue tested for the wife of Brad Pitt in World War Z, a part that eventually went to “The Killing” actress Mireille Enos.
Latino Review first reported Warner Bros’ Superman reboot would include the return of Zod to the silver screen and a villainess sidekick of sorts. They also confirmed through their well-informed source that Man of Steel would, in fact, show Superman’s origins on the planet Krypton, which they describe as having a similar skyline to the futuristic capitol of Coruscant in Star Wars mythology. This fits with my long-winded theory that Snyder’s superhero restart is based on the miniseries “Superman: Birthright,” at least in part.
Short version: A prologue will likely introduce Superman’s birth parents, Jor-el (Daniel Day-Lewis was reportedly considered for the part!) and Lara, as they delicately place their infant son into an interstellar pod and rocket him away from the exploding planet of Krypton. Flash forward to a 25-year-old Clark Kent (Henry Cavill) intervening in a West African conflict. Given his first taste of true heroics, Kent returns to the Kansas town of Smallville to create his costume and diminutive ”human” identity with the help of Martha Kent (Diane Lane) and Pa Kent (Kevin Costner). When his alter-ego is ready, Clark ventures into the city of Metropolis where, we can only assume, General Zod descends on the city.
It’s very Batman Begins, but that’s to be expected from the same screenwriter, David Goyer, and producer, Christopher Nolan. Filming starts this summer in Chicago and Plano, IL.

Per EW release pushed back to 2013:

2012: The Year of the Superhero Movie just lost one of its biggest stars. Long assumed to be targeted for late 2012, Warner Bros. announced today that its new Superman film, Man of Steel will instead bow on June 14, 2013. The shift benefits ginormous December tentpoles, such as The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey and The Lone Ranger, but sets Man of Steel up in a more appropriate summer-movie slot. The Avengers, The Amazing Spider-man, and The Dark Knight Rises will battle for summer 2012 supremacy, while Superman will now likely compete with Iron Man and Thor sequels in 2013.

Laurence Fishburne cast as Perry White in 'Man of Steel'

Lois Lane and Clark Kent just got their boss: Laurence Fishburne will play Daily Planet editor-in-chief Perry White in Man of Steel, EW has learned exclusively. White has traditionally been a hard-charging, old fashioned newspaperman, who relies on his ace reporters, Clark and Lois, to get the big scoop. Jackie Cooper played White in the Christopher Reeve-era Superman films, and Frank Langella took on the role in director Bryan Singer’s Superman Returns in 2006.

The casting resolves the question of what Laurence would be up to following his departure this May from CBS’ long-running CSI after just over two seasons. (Ted Danson will take Fishburne’s place on the show this fall.)

The Superman reboot, produced by Christopher Nolan and directed by Zack Snyder, stars Henry Cavill as Clark (a.k.a. Superman), Amy Adams as Lois, Michael Shannon as General Zod, Kevin Costner as Jonathan Kent, and Diane Lane as Martha Kent. David Goyer (Batman Begins) is penning the script. Man of Steel is due to begin filming this fall, and is slated for release on June 14, 2013.

I'll give him a chance, always big shoes to fill when an actor becomes so iconic, as Reeve. Hopefully the film is well written and acted-not like Superman Returns (yikes!).

Yes, the 1st one kinda reminded me of Christopher's....maybe they have to have different suits for different lighting conditions or it was just a concept suit. Cavill was good in The Tudors.
