Despite an official release date of March 2016, one of America's largest retailers has begun selling the next-generation discs early.
If you preordered your 4K Blu-ray discs at Amazon you might want to look away now: electronics retailer Best Buy has started selling discs two weeks before the official date.
CNET spotted titles including "Chappie", "Fantastic Four" and Academy Award hopeful "The Martian" at the 14th St Manhattan outlet of Best Buy today. Meanwhile online retailer Amazon lists the titles as being available starting March 1, 2016.
Oddly, the 4K Blu-ray's marked price of $28 is lower than the 1080p Blu-ray at $30 but also includes the 1080p version.
4K Ultra HD Blu-ray is the newest, and possibly last, physical disc standard and offers a much higher resolution than HD (3,840x2,160 pixels) in addition to better contrast via HDR and enhanced colors.
The first player to support 4K Blu-ray is Samsung's $399 UBD-K8500, which also slipped into retail weeks before its official launch.
Best Buy did not respond immediately to a request for comment.
