DISC DETAILS FROM SYNAPSE:
One of legendary filmmaker Dario Argento’s most shocking and fantastic films is finally available on Blu-ray in the U.S. in an amazing new release from Synapse Films! Released in the U.S. as CREEPERS by New Line Cinema, 1985’s PHENOMENA is has long been one of Argento’s most discussed and debated films by fans and scholars, and now it’s available in a definitive 3-disc Steelbook® that will make it a must-have release for Argento fans all over the world!

The young Jenifer Corvino (played by Oscar-winning actress Jennifer Connelly, in one of her first film roles) is sent to a private Swiss academy for girls where a vicious killer is on the loose, brutally murdering students. Jennifer is a “gifted” girl with the strange ability to communicate with insects, and Dr. McGregor (Donald Pleasence, John Carpenter’s HALLOWEEN series, ESCAPE FROM NEW YORK) enlists her to help locate the killer. Jennifer finds herself in a bizarre murder plot with maggots, mutants, and razor-wielding chimpanzee mayhem! Can she uncover the killer’s identity before becoming a victim herself? Daria Nicolodi (TENEBRAE) and Fiore Argento (DEMONS) also star in this strange, unique and gory film from Italy’s Master of Horror, Dario Argento. PHENOMENA also features fantastic soundtrack music from progressive-rock favorite Goblin, British Heavy Metal masters Motörhead & Iron Maiden, Andi Sex Gang, Bill Wyman and Simon Boswell!

But HDN could choose not to do business with retailers offering only region A discs, especially with one HDN edition/year region coding could be one of the criteria, Synapse Films isn't forcing anybody I'd imagine. It's not a dig, it's just that it's the second HDN Horror Line exclusive and it's the second region A locked Blu-ray.

And people keep saying that about "so affordable" region free players, good for you but here it isn't, and not easy to find either unless I don't know where to look for them!:dunno:

So when it's this costly ($73 -including shipping- for one steelbook of a 30-year old film— albeit remastered), it makes you wonder what's the point. That being said I ordered one just now because I'm a stupid addict.
Hey Bunk, just wanted you to know that your feedback is appreciated. I understand your frustration. I buy movies from around the world, as do many members. Years ago, I had to decide whether I'd miss releases not available here, or spring for a player. Like you, I am also addicted-I love film-and decided to get a player. We are not a huge retailer, and our primary goal has always been to build from scratch a fun and lively collectibles community (which takes 24-7 work and commitment). As far as cost-well we need to pay for the Steelbooks, Synapse needs to pay for their remastering work, and we have to pay artists for their work on our coins, cards and slips-it's not cheap, and we're happy to pay it, but it gets even costlier in smaller quantities.

Our releases have always succeeded because they are community supported by all of you. There is a piece of each of the Staff members in each release-I've personally been working with Synapse for several years to bring these releases to HDN (and on our pins this year), due to the strength of their transfers and belief in cult horror, and apsmith21 worked on the coins and communicates with artists. Wreck worked tirelessly to get our slips and approve all of this, and as a team, each release comes together. Not tooting our horns, I am sharing this so folks understand "it takes a village" when you're a smaller organization. Everyone that volunteers tirelessly pitches in to promote all forums, and opportunities available to members. In the background we also prepare for promos, cons, give aways, etc to grow the community and bring more fun opportunities.

Sometimes you have to work with those partners who are willing to give you a chance, when you are a smaller organization. The relationship between studio, retailer and the subsequent opportunities that present themselves is a complicated one. Licensing is a very restrictive thing, and we hope that we will be able to release a region free disc to appeal to a wider audience, beyond our homebase of the USA, or those with region free players. I assure you, no one back here is "stupid" or unwilling to work with other partners. Most retailers are not concerned with their international audience, believe me-licensing alone dictates that they focus on discs made in their country. We started in the US, and have always appreciated the excitement our international members brings to HDN, largely due to the fact that we attract members from other communities who would rather hang out here. We're grateful for all contributions and visitors from all countries and regions.

We have conversations and reach out for opportunities daily, but huge chains, retailers will always get 1st dibs because they have the capability to move 1000's of units. Our owners (me included) have been in this hobby since the beginning, and we always seek a variety of opportunities, whether for Steelbooks or otherwise. Believe me, if there is something cool to be developed, and we can do it, we will.

Synapse has been a pleasure to work with, and we feel good about promoting their products, because of how much care goes into their discs. And our artists were thrilled to work on these projects, as Argento is a horror icon and legend.

We know not every release is for everyone (as is the case for other titles), but we appreciate your support, anyway!

I waiting for the next one which I suspect will be Synapse release of remastered Suspiria
Tenebrae and Phenomena I already have the excellent Arrow Video Steelbooks

Suspiria is the one I'm interested in as it's not yet got a steelbook release and Synapse have done a remaster of the film

If I not already got the Arrow Video releases I would have got the HDN (Synapse) Steelbooks of Tenebrae and Phenomena
These are very expensive releases when you take shipping costs into account so it's not a option to double dip for me

I will though 100% get Suspiria Steelbook when HDN announce this as a Black Label release

Thanks Paul, I don't know what it will be as we are working on a number of possible different projects at the same time. Thanks for the positivity-much appreciated!

I'd definitely lean more towards the Dark Inker art but sadly not a fan of this movie. Still, the package looks fantastic & massive props to all at HDN. I know there must be an awful lot of work to get these editions to happen & everyone involved should be praised for putting in the time.

In regards the region thing, sure, I would like a region free release sometime but I can totally understand the reasoning behind the two releases so far being region A only. I'm currently only Region B & have only twice been hit by the region locked thing (Boyhood Mondo & The Revenant from Manta Lab.) There are plenty of releases that I'd love a region free player for, (Number 1 on that list would be the Halloween Complete Collection set which is heartbreakingly region locked.) The choice came down to a region free player or an Xbox One S with a 4 drive & I went with the S. Maybe by the time the next Black Label release rolls around I'll have picked up a region free player but its always nice to have the option.
