I actually really liked the first wave of Pop Art steelbooks, they weren't all great, but there were more than a few decent ones, and even a couple of great ones.

This wave I am not digging at all. They just look sooo lazy. I'm pretty sure it took someone all of 30 minutes to create each one of these.
I'm honestly very comfortable not picking up any of those.

Words can't even sum up how much I hate these pop art style steel books. Don't mean to be negative, but just getting tired lately of some of my favourite films being listed with a steelbook coming, and getting all sorts of stunning visions in my head of the classic cinema art on the steel, or photoshoot promo rare images used for new art that connects directly, only to find it finally revealed as a black steelbook with a white circle in the middle as if it's somehow artistic. Just disappointing. If a film hasn't got an artistic abstract feel to it it doesn't work for me.

I totally agree buddy. Words can't describe how f****** angry it makes me every time I see one of these waves announced. They're just bloody awful, pretentious crap. I get that they've spent time trying to make them look "clever", but they just don't look very nice and it's not what I want on my steelbooks. I'm a film fan not a flipping art expert and to be honest I don't think the designs are all that clever anyway.

Leave this type of design to posters, so that the people that like them can buy them while the rest of us don't have it forced down our throats.

I am all for subjective taste. No one agrees on everything. But what annoys me about these: everytime a movie is released like this- the likelyhood of another (and better) steelbook is decreased. Especially when the call for a catalog title is finite. "Why should we do another steelbook of a catalog title like STRIPES when there already is one?" So if there is only ONE shot to have a steelbook- make it a good one. And don't make it THESE.
And the crappy thing is- apparently the bad steelbook disease is contagious.
Now the Italians are all about ruining steelbook covers, too...

Wow! They truly are bad! Looks like the winners of the Blue Peter under 8's design a steelbook competition!

Amen, absolutely awful the lot of them. They remind me of the cheap knock off DVDs you see on market stalls when you go abroad. Nowt like art made on windows word is there...

I might grab the Dracula one and stick the Cinema Series Blu-ray in it. The art on those upcoming Sony reissues are truly horrendous.

I don't know yet but i cross my finger since i guess im the only one here who likes pop art steelbook

Definitely not! I actually love the Pop Art Steelbooks, because I like the style and yeah, because they're different but still a consistent collection. Although I like Mondo artworks way more, I like to compare these to them (or to the iconic art wave). Same same, but different (like James Franco would say it). :D

I think the Mondo artists would take severe umbrage and be extremely insulted by anybody comparing their work with the 9 year old children who made the PopArt, Iconic, and Reel Heroes steelbook "art".,.

I think you're being extremely silly suggesting 9 year old children designed the steelbooks

I do know why people don't like these, but I think artists put a lot of effort in The Fifth Element, Leon, Terminator Salvation etc. But yeah, it's just a matter of taste and I can't really get enough of these, even the "boring" ones (iconic art seems a bit lazy).
