What happened to Patriots? Was it canned?

Here's an old article from IGN regarding that...

Ubisoft has broken its silence regarding Rainbow 6: Patriots. Speaking to IGN, North American president Laurent Detoc explained why Patriots suddenly went dark, plus why he feels that a switch to next-gen consoles has been good for the project.

“We had a core team. They had a good vision. They got started, and then the game wasn’t working. So [they had] to start again,” Detoc explained. “There’s an editorial group in Ubisoft, a big group, very influential. If the game is not good enough, they say it’s not good enough. Most of the time, the team will say, ‘yeah, I know.’ But sometimes they want to continue in a direction where you say, ‘no, it’s not going to work.’”

“Rainbow had to be remade,” he continued. “Now they’re going to have the benefit of the new consoles, if and when it comes out. It’s one of those examples where you try, it doesn’t work, you try again. If it doesn’t work, we’re not going to bring it to you.”

Detoc also responded to speculation that Rainbow 6 may no longer be called Patriots at all. “Could it become a shooter with another name in the end, because the team doesn’t want to do counter-terrorist guys? Say they want to be in a mercenary setting? That’s possible,” he said.

Rainbow 6: Patriots was announced back in 2011. At E3, Ubisoft's Tony Key confirmed to IGN that Patriots is now coming to next-gen consoles, and Ubisoft executive director Alain Corre more recently told us the project is “still cooking.”

Rainbow is an elite team composed of members of the best special forces units from around the globe. In the first episode of “Inside Rainbow” we invite you to learn more about the British Counter Terrorism Unit and its operators.

Selecting one of 20 Operators will be an important choice for all Rainbow Six Siege players. Will you focus on jamming the opposing squad’s communications? Or will you favor the ever-reliable bulletproof barricade? Will a ranged breach launcher be more useful to you than a sledgehammer? Every choice contributes to your team in different ways, and you can discover the possibilities when Rainbow Six Siege hits stores on October 13, 2015.

A new threat has been confirmed in our world: the White Masks. They are highly lethal and indiscriminate of age, religion, or nationality. To stop this organization, Agent Six is delivering a clear mission: to recruit the best operators from around the world. Team Rainbow must stand ready.

Just heard about this... you guys obviously want to polish the game to make sure it's perfect, which is fine by me. :)

Thanks for letting us know buddy... OP updated.
Yes, everytime it's a big and harsh decision to make. But since it's a online and competitive game, testing the weapons and operators balances is key right now ! :)

After the shambles of AC, I'm not surprised ubisoft don't want to put something out that isn't at least 99% perfect, before their reputation starts taking a beating.
