I’m not sure how much these directors really have to say about these editions. Of course there are occasions where they do get involved when they run competitions to design artworks but with all the individual releases can you really see them sitting there saying I like this but I don’t like that. I would imagine it’s a marketing team who have set rules of what can and can’t be used. I know it does happen though as @Wreck said Tarantino liked a Steelbook he saw and wanted to keep it I believe.

PA have had director approved steels, like you say Tarantino has too I think.
I’m pretty sure there’s more we don’t know about. Same with actors

Yeah I know PA do that a lot. I’m just thinking with the amount of Marvel and Disney Steels coming out I can’t see someone sitting there looking at them all! I’m thinking it’s more the marketing team that decide what gets the go ahead. I could be wrong though and it would be nice if they did have a say in these artworks.

Is that true???? Was he afraid it would outshine the film? I can't imagine how he is happy with the WWA artwork if true.
It’s odd

Thought he’d be all over that. Same with a Atari style slip. But then Spielberg does re release a lot of films so maybe he waits to use stuff down the line
It was mentioned by Jan on Facebook a while back. Just found his comment again and I wasn't quite right before... it wasn't Spielberg himself, but his team.

Jan: "Here I took the liberty of showing you the visuals concept that were not approved by the team around Mr. Spielberg. Not always get lucky, but we fought for it :)"

It would be interesting to read what "Spielberg's team" think about the alternate WWA steel lol Crême de la crême.

Thanks Nick, I imagine that’s how it happens the majority of the time. The team will look at these artworks rather than the Director/ Actor themselves. It is always nice when it is Director approved like PA’s releases are though.

most of PA's titles are indie and art house films, so probably the directors are more opened to ideas unlike the blockbuster directors..

Yeah with the bigger films I’m guessing it’s a lot harder to get approval. As the directors become more mainstream they are less likely to take time up approving artworks.

I really like the SteelBook and the Full Slip should be great, but this movie calls for a lenti and I don't care for either edition. I didn't love the film, so I'm on the fence on this release. I might just buy lenti magnets. (n)

Manta mentioned to me that they had other ideas for slips and extra video game components but due to it being a Spielberg & Warner film it was much harder to get it all approved (which is a shame but we all know how this approval process works now) and they also had a idea for a Atari related themes (possibly a slip but again due to approval)

Disappointing. This release calls for a high gloss and brighter SteelBook. I'm leaning towards passing and getting a 3D Blu-ray.

So you're telling me say, the Weinsteins would have more control over Tarantinos films than himself?

yes, if it's about licensing/product issues. The people who call the shots would be the licensing team in the Weinstein company, and from the licensing team, the chain of command goes all the way up to the executive producers.
I'm not talking about the production/filming of the movie, I'm talking about licensing. Unless Tarantino was a producer of his own films as well, he would not have as much say as an executive producer in licensing issues.

Thanks for explaining that. I never realised how it worked before. I guess I never gave it much thought...
