The 4K UHD is an improvement in terms of balance but there is nothing spectacular about the PQ. The DTS-X audio is reference and it will push your subs to the limit.
Universal has been the worst Studio when it comes to 4K UHD offering. Most of them have been a miss.
There was a couple of good scenes that the PQ was reference quality, Universal have been the poorest studio with 4k so far hope in the future it changes.
Yes and in terms of basic PQ attributes, it is quite balanced overall. No contrast boosting and overblown highlights like King Kong. Also remember, this is not a high budget sci-fi. So CGI in some parts looks crap on HD and super crap on UHD
They used to use new Steelbooks to sell old discs, now they use new discs to sell old Steelbooks.
Purchase Universal 4K releases and their regular Blu-rays only after the reviews are out as they are notorious with their catalog offering. They did improve a bit with few films after criticism but they are yet to remaster a large part of their catalog. Even Gladiator was reportedly remastered by Paramount and not Universal.
The UHD fixes the Blu-ray PQ flaws by establishing the balancing act. However both were sourced from old (not bad) masters. The UHD offers the best presentation of the film. The DTS-X audio is reference as long as your subs are capable.
