That's not an actual old vs. new comparison, it's footage from the 2017 3D trailer compared to footage of unspecified origin (looks like DVD quality to me).

I was going to say my old bluray disc is nice and sharp already. It's got a lot to do with how you have your television set up, sharpness / colour etc. In that comparison it just looks like the contrast is higher a bit more saturation and sharpness increased.

This new 4K release better be a PROPER 4K remaster not some bull$hit. It's one of my fav films of all time I have high hopes for it.

All the Blu-ray releases were average at best. They had shoddy PQ. The first release was so-so but the so called Van Ling release had DNR and EE with some tweaking which pleased the "I hate grain" crowd and casual viewers. Finally James Cameron had the time to supervise but once again they made a mess of the 4K UHD which has been postponed. Like you, this is in my top 10 favourite films of all time.
