Waxwork Records is thrilled to present the deluxe soundtrack re-issue to 1982’s sci-fi horror classic, JOHN CARPENTER’S THE THING. Composed by the legendary Ennio Morricone, the soundtrack to THE THING is a landmark musical composition that is cold, dark, minimal, and effective.

Considered to be John Carpenter’s directorial masterpiece, THE THING is praised as one of the greatest films of it’s genre by both fans and critics. Starring Kurt Russell and A. Wilford Brimley, THE THING follows a team of researchers in Antarctica as they are infiltrated by a parasitic extraterrestrial life form that assimilates other organisms and then imitates them. The classic soundtrack composed by Ennio Morricone effectively captures the cold, isolated tone of the story and film, and marks one of the few John Carpenter directed films that Carpenter did not score himself.

Waxwork Records worked for two years to ensure that such a highly anticipated and sought after vinyl soundtrack re-issue would meet and exceed expectations of the biggest fan of John Carpenter and his sci-fi / horror tour de force that is THE THING.

Features include the complete Ennio Morricone soundtrack re-mastered from the original master tapes, your choice of two different 180 gram colored vinyl variants, all new artwork by Justin Erickson of Phantom City Creative, deluxe heavyweight packaging including satin coated old-style gatefold jackets with UV spot-gloss varnish, an 11” x 22” poster, a custom hand assembled breakaway “ice” slipcase with 100% overall UV gloss coating, and an exclusive interview with director John Carpenter.

Told you it would sell out.... Disbelievers!

Yes you where right with that it will sell out. But not only to US citizens since the Deluxe was up for like half an hour where I could decide if I want to spent this embarassing high amount on a single vinyl release..

But if you compare the release for Taxi Driver and The Thing. Both got the same huge cult following, Thing got an interview with Carpenter and Taxi Driver got exclusive Liner Notes from Scorsese, the last reissue of Taxi Driver was from 1984 and from The Thing 1982. To top it of, The Thing is not the complete OST and 1LP, Taxi Driver is 2LP with the full score and unreleased tracks. So they're not far away from each other.

Only thing that makes sense to me is that since Taxi Driver is still in stock the print run was too much and now got heavy reduced for The Thing..

Well there we have it. I'll just wait for the repress -- maybe I'll be financially better at that time. I'm not too worried about which colour vinyl I have and since I already missed the deluxe edition, it doesn't really matter.

Yes but out of fairness you did say it would sell out because you'd be disadvantaged being on other side of pond:)

To be fair there has been at least 3 times when their servers went down due to heavy demand and I think one (Friday 13th) it took 3 days to get the server up and running again.

But with heavy demand there's no rule that only foreign buyers are allowed to access the servers.

What are they repressing though? BOTH?

It's probably the regular black retail version that hitting stores then ..

Like @dan8885 said, it'll probably just be the regular version with a black vinyl instead of black.
I ordered both already. i was just curious.

Excited to see what the repress will look like. How they talk it sounds like it will not "just" be a regular black.

Sad to hear about the shipping cost. I really hope the Deluxe is as sturdy and heavy as they say. If not they earn 10-15 USD on each shipping to Europe. Even the bigger Boxsets from Mondo like Last of Us or the Batman Animated was 50-60 when I remember correct, and that was multiple records and not 1 ..

Just got the email about the repress

Think it's the white standard version. Don't really specify which version but could be both

@Flloydo they were asked on twitter about the new preorder and they said standard and deluxe versions also they have apparently cancelled the multiple orders from yesterday as scalpers all got them for sale on Ebay

Yeah i see all that on the email, glad they did that. Very in depth answers.
But I haven't seen their Twitter updates so didn't realise it was both editons

The slip on the deluxe sounds cool though and heavy too
