ISTD is running away with this year's votes and I don't think Drive NM is going to catch up. Interesting that those 2 are in the lead. Plain Archive designed both of them.

I think I am most surprised that Leon Kimchi is not getting more votes. Even with the spot gloss finish, so many praised it when it was finally in hand. I just had it out of the slip the other day and took another really good look at it and man it's super nice.

Also suprised Frozen has fallen so far behind. I expected Frozen to win actually but it doesn't look like it has the support for the top spot.

Some say Army of Darkness should be winning but sorry I disagree. No title on the front means I'm not really sure what movie it is and I personally hope no title-less steelbook ever wins this.

As for the differing opinions about this being a "steelbook only" competition, I don't see it that way. I think the first step is... does the steelbook qualify? The glaring black sheep of this group is CA2 NM. That is a WWA steelbook. The slips and goodies that NM added to it are cool but I don't agree that a WWA steelbook should be qualified to be voted into this poll. It makes no sense.

If the steelbook qualifies, then the rest of the package contents and presentation will definitely play a role. The "Asian style packages" will dominate these polls because they are very collector focused. Personally, I treasure my fully loaded package steelbooks more than the (now standard run of the mill) plain jane steelbook only editions. Jumanji and Tangled Zavvi are excellent. Really they are. But they simply cannot compete with the appeal of something like Plain Archive's I Saw the Devil release.

I am fairly sure that 2013's WFRR will be the last ever steelbook only that wins this competition.

I don't really understand why I Saw the Devil is topping the poll. The Steelbook isn't that good and the PET slip (which seems to be the most popular edition) is just a plastic slip with the title on. I think it may simply be a case of Plain Archive being the current favourite retailer for a lot of collectors and therefore many are reflecting this in their votes with I Saw the Devil being the most popular of the Plain Archive titles on the list.

I guess voters are voting based on overall packaging and extras included and not just the steelbook design. Well, that's the current trend on steelbook packaging. Plain Archives is putting the premium on extra packaging and extra content which makes it more palatable to collectors.

What qualifies to be included here? Well, whatever steelbook collector's deem to be "the best" quality wise. It seems to be subjective as no formal criteria have been listed.

Lots of good options on the list. If we're going just on the look of the steel, I have to say that The Wolf of Wall Street is my favorite. All things considered though, it's tough to argue with the Plain Archive choices.

Can someone post the list - can't see videos at this location ;)

sorry no! what they did for this movie was outstanding. this is my only Plain Archive. i also do not pay over the odds. for any Asian steel. unless. it's a must have.

Is it really any better than what HDzeta, Kimchi, Nova etc. have been doing? I don't think it is.

The PET slip is the first of its kind though.

That may be the case but it is ultimately still a plain plastic slip with the title on. If it had awesome artwork or transformed the look of the Steelbook, then I might think differently. @AnubisNefer's idea for a 'night vision' PET slip for Zero Dark Thirty was a great idea for example.

I really don't understand why Ender's Game is so far behind. It's simply a perfect done steelbook...

It is all about hype.

It's not all about hype and what's better or not, it's about different tastes. You can't say there was no hype about Frozen. Or the hype about Novamedia until their server collapsed every release day.

For me, I didn't vote for Frozen because I don't got it, simple as that. Same with HDzetas HTTYD. And for me, ISTD is the #1 Steelbook release of the year. Even without counting the package and I don't got the full PET. The Steelbook itself fits, for me, perfect to the movie. Beautiful drawn characters, perfect color shape, multi layered finish ... everything. And maybe there was a few more that thought the same so ...

There's no accounting for taste and thats good

It's all about tastes and preference. The majority have spoken so far and I Saw the Devil is the best and it's hard to argue against it.

Had to go with Novamedia Drive and Kimchi Her. Two of my favorites in my collection so far.
So many of these listed were great!
