Toshiba’s Qosmio Laptop Gets Blu-Ray

172539-toshiba_blu-ray_originalAs a laptop with a screen that screams 18.4 inches, and a configuration that would make booting up feel sinful, the Toshiba Qosmio isn’t kidding. But it does seem to be. Its freshest model, the X500, boasts a sparkly new mobile variant of Intel’s Core i7 processor, 6 Gigs of DDR3 RAM, 1 GB DDR5 RAM on the Nvidia GeForce GTS 250 graphics chip, HDMI, provisions to fit in TWO hard disk drives (including a solid-state one), Harmon/Kardon onboard sound…. and an optional drool-guard that prevents keyboard damage from your friends salivating all over. Jokes apart, the X500 is nothing new in terms of the Qosmio tradition of being a complete entertainment solution that you can lug around without any backache.

What’s new however, and long overdue for the Qosmio range, is the inbuilt Blu Ray drive/burner. If you remember, Toshiba just ambled into the Blu Ray party last month, after years of fighting the unrewarding battle for HD-DVD. So, this development on the X500, (which will be rolled out this October 22nd, coincidentally with Windows 7), along with its move with the P500, also happens to be part of Toshiba’s initiation into Blu Ray.

A wannabe-desktop like the X500 will carry a price tag not unlike you imagine, but there’s no way of confirming that till the the 13th of October. So, dream on

and hang on. 😉
