The second season of Chuck is as entertaining as the first. Chuck continues his adventures in fighting the bad guys along with Sarah and her CIA agent. Chuck continues to find himself in sticky situations trying to find/protect the new Intersect. In this season, Chuck must come to terms with his feeling towards Sarah, while dealing with a pesky ex-girlfriend. Morgan, Jeff, Anna, and Lester remain an integral part of the show adding more than the comedic relief that makes this show so entertaining.

What makes Chuck so entertaining? The answer is a combination of things. It is not only what the main actor achieves while on screen, but everything else surrounding him. Chuck is witty, over the top action, and some really cheesy moments, but this is what makes the show so charming and loveable. I do have to say that the encompassing cast is spot on and adds to the overall great show. Each character brings something to the table, whether is a Buy More employee to Chuck’s love interest it just comes all together nicely.

I guess if I, a regular guy, found myself being involved in the middle of the government agency and thugs looking to get a hold of me, I would probably don’t know what to do. In the case of Chuck, he finds himself trapped in between two forces unable to fulfill a normal life, a life he desperately wants. Part of the show is Chuck realizing that what he wants he possibly can’t have until the entire ordeal is over. Will he ever achieve this? I suppose watching the third season will take us somewhere.

Chuck: The Complete Second Season arrived on Blu-ray with a 1080p VC-1 encode framed at 1.78:1. There are plenty of issues with this transfer which is surprising given that Warner has had some very impressive TV releases. There’s plenty of noise and artifacts in the image, softness appears more often than none, and to top it off the fine details just simply disappoints. There are instances where the image is great, but they are very few. The skin tones also suffer from oversaturation. The colors appear a bit too vibrant, while it doesn’t annoy me personally, it might annoy some viewers. Overall this is disappointing video quality.

Chuck: The Complete Second Season arrives on Blu-ray with a Dolby Digital 5.1 surround audio track. You may be reading this and wondering if it’s a typo, but no this release only comes with a lossy track, no sign of lossless. Why Warner decides to plague its TV releases with lossy audio tracks is unknown. There are plenty of folks out there complaining about this very thing, but oh well if this is all we are getting then we should just live with it. Anyway, the dialog is well prioritized and the LFE output is great for the most part only being required in some action scenes. My complaints here is the audio track appears to lack depth, plenty of scenes where a room is full doesn’t appear to be full or a party full of people doesn’t feel much like a party, the rears are never really used other than to play the music score. Chuck’s audio track is lackluster.

Chuck: The Complete Second Season offers a small variety of supplements although the majority of them are offered in standard definition. I do have to mention that there are fewer supplements that I expected, but all that is included in the release is gladly welcomed. So let’s check out what’s inside the discs.

Chuck: The Complete Second Season was very entertaining, but regardless of how great the series turned out to be, which completely surprised me, I can’t help feeling disappointed with the presentation. The video is nowhere near what Warner had been doing with their previous TV shows (e.g. Fringe, Pushing Daisies, Supernatural, etc.) were at least the video was almost flawless. The audio is a bit better, but again the lossy track is a disappointment, what happened to the WB announcement that every release would have lossless audio tracks? This release feels rushed period. Ultimately Chuck fans will pick this up while those looking to get the full HD experience might want to start with a different release. I have no doubts Chuck is a great TV show and I enjoyed it from the beginning to the end of the season, but I suggest at least a rent.
