Meek’s Cutoff to be released on Blu-ray on September 13th

September 13th is confirmed as the release date for the Blu-ray version of Meek’s Cutoff (2010). The 2011 western film has been directed by Kelly Reichardt and stars Michelle Williams, Bruce Greenwood, Will Patton, and Zoe Kazan. At the Venice Film Festival last year the film also won the SIGNIS Award which went to Kelly Reichardt. Right now details regarding the release, specifically the region coding status and the technical specs are currently unknown.

This film is actually based on the 1845 Oregon Trail incident which went down in the history books. The film itself is also set in the year 1845 which were the very early days of the Oregon Trail. Stephen Meek, a mountain man has been hired by the three families, who are a part of a wagon team, to guide them over the Cascade Mountains. Eventually they all end up getting lost in the dry rock and sage as Meek guides them towards a supposed short cut across the high plain desert on some unmarked path. During this time the film features how these emigrants survive the hunger and thirst over the coming days, battling the lack of faith as well. This is the time when a Native American arrives out of nowhere and they are left with a choice of either relying on the Native American who they have always considered as the enemy or continue being guided by Meek who simply prove to be unreliable.

In these modern times it is hard to find some good westerns and movie lovers are lucky to be getting on Blu-ray.
