Hot Toys Luke Skywalker DX07 1/6 Scale Figure Review

I’ve been collecting all sorts of collectibles in the last few years, but as of last June I discovered a company called Hot Toys, a company that makes collectible figures based on movie characters. My fascination with their work began, I know they are not the only ones, but they are making my favorite characters so it’s easy to stick with them for now at least. This time I managed to obtain a Luke Skywalker DX07 collectible figure. I must say that it is an exceptional piece(s).

Generally Hot Toys has been focusing on the 1/6 scale figures (1/4 will debut this year with Batman); the DX series features more accessories than the regular movie masterpieces. Luke Skywalker arrives in a simple yet well designed box, with two figures inside; one is a clean Bespin outfit while the second figure is battle damaged version. The clothing on each figure is highly detailed from the boots to the jacket. The battle damage version is also impressive featuring torn clothing and signs of wear and tear.

The head sculpts are incredible, a bit different than what was shown from the final pictures released by Hot Toys, but nevertheless they look fantastic in hand. Mark Hamill’s likeness is captured with excellent detail. This version blows the Sideshow Collectibles version out of the water. The battle damage version captures Hamill’s impotent expression after facing Vader for the first time. It is incredibly detailed featuring a bloody bruised look. Overall, the paint job on the head sculpt is excellent. I would say the only complaint I find in the head sculpts is the hair, even though is not too bad, the battle damage hair could of been better. However, as is I can’t really complain much.

The figures include a set of 10 hands including the cut off hand piece (after Vader cuts Luke’s hand in Empire Strikes Back) and the hand cover that is placed on it after being saved. Also, two light sabers, two blasters, a set of belts, a stand, and the Bespin weathervane. The sabers are very detailed, one of them is “off” while the second light saber is released, I really liked the way each handle was painted and finalized. I wish the light saber would include a way to have a light of sorts but that’s wishful thinking, I guess I can’t complaint about the excellent craftsmanship of this final product. I was late to the party so I didn’t manage to get the special edition that included the severed Luke head inside the Vader helmet, those that managed to get one I envy you. For this edition Hot Toys included a stand, which is the norm for all their figures, but they also went the extra mile and included the weathervane which lights up and collectors can either leave it standing up or if the users choose they can also screw it to their detolf as it has the ability to do so.

The bodies of each figure appear to have better movements with all its joints, but the real culprit here is the clothing that allows the movement to be that much easier. They are well built and sturdy, I haven’t seen any issues on either figure. The articulation with each figure really allows the owners to do all sorts of different poses; collectors will have plenty of options for displaying it.

I’m a Star Wars fan and very pleased with the final product and you really can’t judge it until you have it in hand. The craftsmanship and excellent attention to detail makes this one the best looking figures in my collection. Aside from the hefty price tag (which many of DX figures carry), $300 on Sideshow Collectibles, I don’t have any complaints. If you are into 1/6 scale figures and the indecisive about the DX07, I can tell you that it is worth the price and the wait! You get two figures for the price of one here.
