NBC’s HEROES are ‘Reborn’ in 2015!

During the telecast of the 2014 Winter Olympic Games from Sochi on February 22nd, NBC aired a shocking, out-of-nowhere promo spot; HEROES will return in 2015 as a 13-episode mini-series.

This new mini-series will be a standalone story arc titled ‘Reborn’. Story details are under wraps at the moment, so it’s hard to say whether or not the show’s original main players — which included Zachary Quinto as Sylar, Milo Ventimiglia as Peter, Hayden Panettiere as Claire, Masi Oka as Hiro and many, many more — will return for this new arc.

NBC Entertainment President Jennifer Salke issued the following statement after the promo went live:

The enormous impact ‘Heroes’ had on the television landscape when it first launched in 2006 was eye-opening. Shows with that kind of resonance don’t come around often and we thought it was time for another instalment. We’re thrilled that visionary creator Tim Kring was as excited about jumping back into this show as we were and we look forward to all the new textures and layers Tim plans to add to his original concept. Until we get closer to air in 2015, the show will be appropriately shrouded in secrecy, but we won’t rule out the possibility of some of the show’s original cast members popping back in.

It was also announced that a digital series will arrive before the new mini-series to introduce the audience to the new world that ‘Reborn’ takes place in.

This announcement really came out of left-field, but it’s really not a surprise. Networks have been reviving their once-popular shows due to a Netflix clause that states that they’ll only host shows that had proper endings for their binge-watching audience. Being that HEROES was one of many popular shows that were suddenly canned, this will give it the opportunity to move over to Netflix at a later date.
