UNCHARTED film welcomes screenwriter Mark Boal onboard

Uncharted

Sony Pictures’ long-in-development film adaptation of the UNCHARTED video game series is finally gaining some ground. Though the film has had Seth Gordon (HORRIBLE BOSSES) attached as a director for a while now and it’s gone through a long string of screenwriters (including NATIONAL TREASURE’s The Wibberleys and the upcoming DOCTOR STRANGE’s Thomas Dean Donnelly), it’s never really been able to gain traction. Now comes word that screenwriter Mark Boal — the Academy Award-winning writer of THE HURT LOCKER and ZERO DARK THIRTY — has been brought onboard to pen a new draft. Boal is apparently a fan of UNCHARTED, so having someone of his talent in charge of the script at this point is very good news for fans of the series.

No casting has been announced yet, though fans have been clamoring for anyone from Nathan Fillion to Chris Pratt to Bradley Cooper to tackle the lead role of Nathan Drake. UNCHARTED is currently scheduled for a June 10, 2016 release.
