[Toy Fair 2018] Insight Editions, Playmobil, Enesco and more from the show floor

My Toy Fair coverage continues with a host of companies and their amazing products. Each year when I get a chance to walk the floor aimlessly or on my way to meetings I try to keep my eyes open looking for interesting booths that catch my eye. So below are some booths I was able to make my way to; some booths Hi-Def Ninja are familiar with while others are new to us.

Hi-Def Ninja is as always very thankful for all the below companies taking the time to show us around their booth and show off their newest products!

First up are Insight Editions. I’ve covered them at both SDCC and NYCC and as many of you many know the people at Insight Editions were extremely generous in donating some books for Ninja Week.

Insight Editions produces illustrated books that cover a wide range of topics in pop culture, entertainment, history, and the arts. From their Walking Dead cookbook, Harry Potter Wand Collection and Buffy the Vampire Slayer Grimoire to their work with Mondo on the Art of Mondo and previously the Art of Jock books Insight Editions are producing some of the highest quality books that reaches a wide range of fandoms.

At the Toy Fair however they were focusing on their IncrediBuilds and Insight Luminaries collections. The IncrediBuilds collection features do-it-yourself, customizable, freestanding models and educational guidebooks that are sure to delight readers; these also include many licensed properties such as Overwatch, Marvel, Harry Potter, and Star Wars. Their new line the Insight Luminaries focuses on licensed candles.

Playmobil
http://www.playmobil.us/

Next up is another familiar face – Playmobil. Playmobil produces miniature figures in multiple themes. This year I took a look at their expanding HOW TO TRAIN YOUR DRAGON and GHOSTBUSTERS product lines.

Ghostbusters added some new sets in what they are calling Mission Packs that feature Venkman with Helicopter and Spengler with Cage Car but the real winner is the Ghostbusters II PLAYMOGRAM 3D. These sets when synced up with a free app allow for a cool augmented reality feature that projects some real ghost catching action.

I was lucky enough to receive one of these sets and will be doing a separate review of it. Look out for it in the very near future.

For How to Train Your Dragon Playmobil is expanding the line with three new Dragons; Ruffnut and Tuffnut with Barf and Belch, Snotlout and Hookfang, and Fishlegs and Meatlug. Also added to the line is the Gobber the Belch with Sheep Sling featured in the sequel.

Enesco
http://www.enesco.com/

Enesco is an American company specializing in the sales and distribution of giftware. Most of their products can be found in specialty card and gift retailers, home décor boutiques, as well as mass-market chains and online retailers. Enesco is also the parent company of Gund, manufacturer of plush stuffed animals and the wildly popular Pusheen line.

Maybe it was their location right behind Funko but once I passed by and saw some of th really cool Disney’s The Nightmare Before Christmas collectibles I was drawn into the booth. Along with this classic they had a range of products from almost all Disney animated movies.

Another line on display was Miss Mindy’s ‘Cartoon Folk Art’ which features handcrafted sculptures. Her amazing Vinyl Toys just drew me in and I felt the need to share these products with you.

Square Enix
https://na.square-enix.com/us/home

Square Enix Ltd. Creates some of the hottest games including Final Fantasy, Dragon Quest, Tomb Raider, Deus Ex, Kingdo Hearts to name a few. However they also produce some of the most stylized figures I have seen from these properties. Take a look below and be amazed by the Final Fantasy Bahmut figure and the X-23 and Cyclops figures.

Toy Tokyo
https://www.toytokyo.com/

So I briefly covered Toy Tokyo at the Five Points Festival last year. Toy Tokyo opened in 2000 in NY and has grown into a mainstay. Collaborating with some of the hottest talent in the designer toy industry they have gained a reputation as having unique items from Hong Kong and Japan.

UBTECH
https://www.ubtrobot.com/us/

Finally up is UBTECH; making their debut at Toy Fair UBTECH is a leading AI and humanoid robotic company. At Toy Fair they showed off their Star Wars First Order Stormtrooper Robot. This robot features augmented reality (AR) capabilities, voice command, facial recognition, and sentry patrolling. The interactive robot allows users to control their own personal Stormtrooper and interact like never before.

With the app you can issue direct verbal orders, and launch attacks via the app interface in first and third person views for immersive interactive app play. The Stormtrooper even features facial recognition for up to three faces for customized interactions and as the app is not connect to the internet be secure in the knowledge that the Stormtrooper lives within a closed network. With the sentry patrolling feature you can set the Stormtrooper to patrol a designated area to detect and respond to intruders.
