LIFE OF THE PARTY Blu-ray Review

[wp-review id=”93433″]

Deanna and Dan have just dropped off this daughter Maddie at her Sorority House for her senior year at Decatur University. As they’re pulling away, Dan tells Deanna that he wants a divorce because he is sleeping with their realtor. The house is going up for sale because Dan owns everything that they have. When they were first pregnant with Maddie, Dan made Deanna drop out during their senior year at the college so she never finished her degree. She decides that she wants to finish and get her degree in archaeology. She has re-enrolled and is ready to try to fit in.

LIFE OF THE PARTY is directed by Ben Falcone. He is Melissa McCarthy’s husband and has directed both TAMMY and THE BOSS. This is a comedy that is in the spirit of BACK TO SCHOOL. Unlike that movie, this has a more plausible reason for Dee to go to college with her daughter. FULL VELOCITY!

VIDEO QUALITY:

The video is a 1080p AVC presentation that looks very nice but upon closer inspection, the images are very soft. This doesn’t affect the details too much and a lot of those details stand out. It just looks like some shots have a haze going on. It could’ve been done to make the cast looks a bit younger. The coloring is bright in the clothing and settings. The skin tones are natural and warm (except for Leonor’s because she’s not a daytime person).

AUDIO QUALITY:

The audio is a DTS-HD Master Audio 5.1 mix. The movie is mostly dialogue but it really comes to life during the various parties. The voices have a clear sound while the music is blaring with strong LFEs. The music is mixed with the crowd chatter in the surround speakers and it is excellent.

THE BOTTOM LINE:

LIFE OF THE PARTY is a comedy that, I feel, is really funny. The filmmakers were definitely able to have hilarious moments along with touching moments. They were also great at making the scenes with Dee and her daughter super awkward. The softness of the Blu-ray doesn’t distract at all and the audio is great. The extras are ok, but they feel like an inside joke to the people involved with the movie. Overall, this is worth checking out for sure so pick it up or give it a rent.
