BUYBUST Blu-ray Review

[wp-review id=”97048″]

In Manila, Anti-Narcotics Social Operative Nina Manigan lost her team in a bust and she is ready fro get in with another squad. She has joined another crew and to try and take them down. When the meeting changes locations, they whole thing ends up in a bad area and nothing good can come of this.

Erik Matti directs BUYBUST and he has quite a few projects under his belt. This movie has the feel of THE RAID with a group of police working hard to get out of a terrible situation. There is plenty of good tension and grit.

VIDEO QUALITY:

The video is a 1080p AVC presentation. The colors are natural and when there are neon or brighter colors, they really stand out. Skin tones are natural. The details are there and stand out when the hand-cams catch it. The blacks don’t ever get deep and have a look like they were artificially lightened. They are considerably lighter than the black letterbox bars.

AUDIO QUALITY:

The two main audio mix in DTS-HD Master Audio 5.1: Filipino and English. Both have dialogue that sound natural but there may have been a disc error; I’m not exactly sure so I won’t get into it because I need to look into it further. As for the effects, the gunfire is heavy with bone rattling shots. Some of the chaos that happens fills the rear speakers. It works well with the movie and the genre.

THE BOTTOM LINE:

BUYBUST is a strong entry in the police-film genre and stays entertaining with tension. The acting is pretty good and I like the focus on Anne Curtis’ character. The video is good as a whole and lends to the feel of the film. The audio is strong with some of the heavy gunfire. The extras look like they’re light but the Making Of is no joke. Overall, this film is worth a watch if not to outright buy, at least rent it first.
