The walls are closing in on all sides as John Dutton and his family continue to fight for their survival, and unlikely partnerships, new enemies and disloyalty threatens to pull the family apart.

YELLOWSTONE is a series on the Paramount Channel that is somewhat reminiscent of shows like DALLAS. Costner is a rancher who has to deal with family and people he does business with.

VIDEO QUALITY:

The video is a 1080p AVC presentation that has a well-done transfer. The details in the actor’s faces from the sun-worn ranch hands to the age of some of the “older” actors are strong. Individual hairs and stubble are as clear as day. Rough textures in clothing also lend to the realism. The scenery is beautifully captured and many of the backdrops are like paintings. The coloring in the sky against the dusty terrain feels right. There are clean lines and sharp contrasting in the images as well.

AUDIO QUALITY:

The audio is a Dolby TrueHD 5.1 mix. It is a dialogue-centric series with the front speakers getting the most use. Of course, there is ambient and other sounds coming from the rear channels but it plays to the environment. There are some light LFEs when necessary. The dialogue is clear and prioritized with the effects.

THE BOTTOM LINE:

YELLOWSTONE is a well-made drama and has some solid acting. There is a great cast that has great chemistry. Now, I know I said the video transfer is very good but I also want to mention the cinematography. The scenery and just the way that this series is filmed is beautiful. The sound mix is also done very well. There is an extensive list of special features and there isn’t much that they don’t cover. For fans wanting this at home, this is an easy recommend.
