It's been wicked busy for me but I have gotten a couple of my Halloween favorites:

50MoviePosters_5.jpg

Loved this movie from when I was but a wee lad. Inspired to this monster Universe by my mom at what must have been 5 or at the most 6 years old. A graverobbing mad scientist, an evil hunchback assistant, and a monster only wanting a friend, but instead receiving betrayal, and hatefulness to his very existence. Riveting and superbly acted, this role launched Karloff into the stratosphere of fame. As for the film, easily one of the great openings in movie history.

dracula_has_risen_from_the_grave(2).jpg

At about 13 years of age I was at the Boys Club swimming with some friends. When we were done we went to our bikes. All over the ground someone had thrown these flyers for a movie showing at 20th Century Drive-in in Tampa. It was this picture but all in blue ink. It was mesmerising as we all stood there looking at it. I took one home with me to keep and showed my dad, as he was well aware of his sons love for monsters. I'll always remember him taking me to see it at the drive in. He did not get in to this stuff at all and could have blown it off. But he took me because he knew I wanted to go. What an awesome dad I had. For the movie, hands down the most excellent stake thru the heart scene of all time IMO. What can I tell you. It's love, man.

Me too, I really like the remake as well. It has great re-watch, I watch it every so often. The zombies in it are badass, they don't just mull around aimlessly, they run with determination. :wow:

Yeah it’s awesome. Love the opening scene when she’s escaping the house. Then the Ariel shot of her driving off. Reminds me of the Ariel shot in 30 days of night.
That final credit shots on the camera is awesome too.

The zombies are very good in this. Very savage. 28 days later style

I heard there was a sequel in the works but now it’s going to be a tv series but I don’t know how true that is

Well if there is going to be a TV series, I sure hope it doesn't follow in the footsteps of The Walking Dead.

Anyone start the 31 Days of Halloween marathon yet? :D

8 days in and I've watched nowhere near the amount is of liked too:LOL::whistle: been so busy with work but have some time off after today so plan to binge a little whilst the kids are at school and then as Wreck saidfit some family-friendly ones in at the evening and weekend.

3 from hell is definitely one that I'll be watching at some point, along with the rest of Zombies releases:thumbs:

Not sure how true it is but...

That's very true, man! It's shooting right now. Zack has been posting updates to his Vero page and I can't wait! The only downside, for me as a collector, is that it's going to Netflix. That means, A) I won't be able to see it on a big screen, and B) I likely won't be able to add a physical release of it to my collection.

From Dread Central:

Zack Snyder changed the game in 2004 with Dawn of the Dead, a film that bucked the trend of lackluster remakes while breaking new ground in the then-evolving zombie subgenre. And that’s why we’re so excited to see his return to horror, Army of the Dead (currently in production).

While exact plot details have been scarce, Snyder recently dished with our friends at WMMR. He didn’t just reveal a bit about what awaits us, he gave a ballpark release date:

“The movie takes place in Las Vegas. A zombie plague hits Vegas, and they’re able to contain the virus to the city – they build a wall out of shipping containers. And then the city falls. And six years later, one of the casino owners hires this group of zombie soldiers to go get his money that he left in a safe in the casino. It’s coming out on Netflix next winter.”

Army of the Dead
stars Dave Bautista. Garret Dillahunt, Raúl Castillo, Nora Arnezeder, Matthias Schweighöfer, Samantha Win, and Rich Cetrone.

Also, the DotD remake is a masterpiece. One of my all-time favourite horror or zombie films. It's relentless, looks great, and doesn't shy away from gore or scares. That movie is the reason why I became obsessed with James Gunn's writing.

Oh wickid! The idea for the supposed sequel sounds interesting in Vegas so I wonder if the series will take that idea now the sequel is no more

And I agree. If I like it, it will be a shame that I won’t be able to buy it. Saying that, we have had steelbooks for some Netflix shows but mainly marvel ones by the looks of it. (Daredevil, JJ, Luke cage etc)

Yeah I love it too but some reason had left it a while. I think it’s because I only own it on DVD and all my DVDs are in boxes from when I moved out. And I went through them recently for some horrors.
Gunn is amazing I agree

I believe Army of the Dead is a movie only and not a series. It's a legit sequel to DotD... just likely focusing on new characters in the same world like Romero did with his series.

Got in a couple more classics the past 2 days. One I had planned on, one because I was still enjoying the flavor.

sonoffrankenstein.png

Just love this movie. Really kind of feel sometimes that it doesn't get the love it deserves for what it brings. Not only are we treated to Karloff's last turn as the monster, but we're introduced to one of the greatest fiends in cinema with Lugosi's Ygor. Frankenstein's castle filled with secret rooms, and a one time sympathetic monster, turned into a menacing beast doing the evil will of his only friend; Ygor.

house-of-frankenstein.jpg

This movie, House of Dracula and Abbot and Costello meet Frankenstein all share in the glory of a multiple monster movie treat, but this is the best of the Houses IMO and not only because it has Karloff as the evil Dr. Neiman, but it's Glenn Strange's first turn as the monster and his version ended up being the most commonly used with the stammering, arms outstretched lumbering beast. The irony is he didn't even audition, but was in makeup for another film (a pirate movie I believe) and Jack Pierce, who created the flathead look, was doing his makeup. He asked Glenn to stop by after work and he's pay him like 50 bucks if he did. Pierce covered all the mirrors and went to work on Strange. When he was done, he showed Strange his work, told him he should be the next monster, and history was made. This is Lon Chaney Jr.s 3rd time in the role of the cursed Larry Talbot, aka the Wolfman. It is Carradine's first run at Dracula. He doesn't get enough credit for his time in the role, but he did portray the blood sucker just as many times as Bela Lugosi, which is to say 2 times.

Had a few day’s off (went to see joker a few nights back) but caught up on a few.

The vault - been on my list a while. It’s not too bad, Franco was decent but it’s also a tad cliche. The annoying ended me because it’s a simple twist and I didn’t see it coming lol

Murder party - another that’s been on my list for while. After watching blue ruin and green room over the years and knowing this was a much more low budget first film I still wanted to give it a go. It’s purely rubbish. However there’s a certain thing that made me not turn it off and I’ve not quite worked that out yet. But yeah avoid.

It chapter 2 - watched this again. I loved it even more the second time round. I’ve argued with so many about this film that it’s just annoying me now but I’m getting sick of certain criticism it gets (of my friends) to the point where I’ve given them an explanation as to why this happens etc and they still won’t have it.

What keeps you alive - again another ive had on my Netflix list for a while but finally got around to watching it. I really enjoyed it but I’m not sure I’d watch it again. It’s well acted, intrigued by the main character and quite horrific at times but there’s only so much you can do with this type of film.

In the tall grass - I just got bored in honesty. I actually started to get bored of seeing the same scenery which is pretty much tall green grass and every so often a giant rock. It’s starts all creepy and interesting, weird shiiiit happens and some parts were done really well. But once the weird shiiiit all starts to make sense of what’s going on it became a standard king story of some unexplained supernatural force at the base. At one point I thought it was going to link to IT with possible shapeshifters and a piece of rock from the when IT entered the atmosphere. I liked the main girl though.

Scary stories to tell in the dark - this was awful. I was so up for this. The trailer made it look so good. Plus with it being Andre øvredal (troll hunter & autopsy of jane doe) I thought it was going to be as unique as them. It wasn’t. I feel like he had no control over this film and it was studio decisions. That’s the only thing I can think of because his last 2 films had a individuals stamp on it. This could of been made by anyone, the CGI was laughable (makes troll hunter like Jurassic Park compared to what he did with this as an established director). the kids were annoying, the story was basic and the ending was very standard. The only weird moment is in the hospital but even (whatever the hell that thing is) looks like a suit from some weird early 90s kids tv show. In fact I’ve seen scarier and freakier kids Saturday morning tv shows

Got a couple on my list for this week that hopefully I can get through

Been keeping busy, man! That's a solid line-up of films. The Vault was a strange one because it blew my mind, but it was also completely forgettable. Haha!

Got in a couple more yesterday!
an-american-werewolf-in-london-movie-poster-1981-1020194534.jpg

Who was utterly blown away by the sensational transformation in this film???? This guy!!!! It's hard to blow my socks off with typical horror monster fare, but this film sure did it. A perfect mix of horror and humor, with a righteous looking babe in Jenny Agutter who's a nurse who takes home stray American men!!! But seriously, the entirety of this film is damn near perfect and fully delivers. On a side note my former drummer Corey was so inspired by this movie he went to Orlando to a Make Up con featuring Rick Baker and they hit it off. Corey is now living the dream and was just part of the nominated group in Three Billboards.....

earsdthgyuijo.jpg

It takes more than a solid effort to best an initial movie in a series but boy does this do it in spades. The chemistry of the marines is awesome do in no small part to Jeff Paxton who shines like a winey kick ass dude. Plus, it's always satisfying when the big dirtbag of the movie get's his in a most deserved way. Killer film in every way and so strong to me I look at Alien 3 as merely a nightmare zipping thru Ripley's coma induced mind.
