PS4 - Firmware 1.52

Sony has released PS4 system update 1.52.

Posting on twitter, Sony noted that the latest firmware improves system software stability and advised users to enable Auto Downloads and leave their PS4 in standby mode so that the console will download the firmware and install it automatically.

If you have access to the system now and have it switched on then you should get the update automatically.

XB1 - First Patch

Xbox One's first required system update is out now.

Microsoft's Major Nelson detailed the update last night, revealing that it'll include fixes for SmartGlass, multiplayer and more.

Here's the details:

Xbox One Patch (December 10)

- Addresses SmartGlass issues for some users when coming in and out of connected standby
- Addresses multiplayer issues for some users when re-joining games
- Addresses issues with inconsistent notifications for some users
- Addresses dashboard performance for some users
- Offers improvements for Xbox One's TV, system update, and content update services for scaling over time
- Updated wireless networking driver to improve connectivity issues for some users

Xbox One systems utilizing the system's "instant on" feature will automatically download the update in the background, install, and then power down. The 'Xbox On' Feature will not work once the console has automatically downloaded the update until you turn it on manually for the first time after the download.

The installation process should take between two and five minutes.

PS4 Patch Adding Video Editing, HDCP Off and Twitch 720p

IGN - MARCH 19, 2014
Sony has revealed that the next major PS4 patch will bring big enhancements to the console's Share function, and also let you turn off HDCP, enabling gameplay capture via HDMI.

The company has revealed that it's prioritising changes and fixes for issues based on user feedback, and plans to release this next patch "soon."

"This upcoming update will add a rich video editor with a simple tool to personalise your video clips, and you’ll also be able to export to and save the videos and screenshots you create by pressing the Share button to a USB drive," a blog post explains. "In addition, this update will add an HDCP off option for capturing gameplay via HDMI, a feature we’ve previously said would come after launch.

"We recognise that some gamers want to record and share longer clips of their gameplay sessions, and we’re excited to deliver this option with PS4. There’s a lot more coming in this update as well, so stay tuned for more — there will be plenty in the update to excite everyone."

Additionally, the company also explained that a separate update is planned to enable you to both archive Twitch broadcasts, and raise their resolution. As soon as we know more regarding a release schedule we'll let you know.

YouTube now lets you upload gameplay clips directly from Xbox One

I don't know if this is new but I thought it was worth posting. I don't own an XBOXONE so I can't confirm but this article was posted just over three hours ago.

xbox-one-youtube-app-uploading.png

YouTube announced that it’s rolling out a newly updated YouTube app for Xbox One today that brings the ability to upload gameplay clips directly from the Xbox’s Game DVR feature. The app will also now support the Xbox One Snap Mode:

YouTube now also supports Xbox One Snap Mode (so you can move it to one side of your screen, where it will continue to run while you do something else on the main part of your screen) ’cause ain’t nobody got time to switch between screens while in the middle of a game. Watch a how-to video while stuck on a board, play an awesome music playlist while you finish a level, or catch up with the guys from TeamCrafted while browsing on your Xbox One.

In addition, users will be able to earn 10 different achievements, such as UUDDLRLRBA for watching more than 5 hours of gaming videos, through the new YouTube for Xbox One app.

You’ll be able to upload new gameplay clips you’ve recorded to YouTube through a new My Uploads option in the app rolling out today on Xbox One. You’ll first have to make sure the feature is enabled by going to Settings and selecting “Share game clips” and “Share on social network.”

XB1

Microsoft has revealed more details on the Xbox One update for April, which should start to roll out today and may even already be live for your machine.

Here are the details on those features from the mouth of Microsoft:

- Game and app saves and updates. A game save progress bar will show you the status of your game saves. You will also be able to easily tell what games and apps are being updated or have been updated recently.

- Friends improvements. Notifications will be added to see when favorites and friends sign in to Xbox Live. This was one of the most frequently requested features, so we made it a priority to include it in this update. Also, friends who are in multiplayer will be identified in the friends list.

- Kinect voice and motion improvements will continue to be fine-tuned for quality and reliability of Xbox One commands. For example, we’ve updated some of the gesture functionality to reduce false positives on non-hand objects triggering gesture commands.

- Improved GameDVR video quality through compression algorithm improvements.

- Blu-ray player supports 50 Hz video output for content recorded at 50 Hz. We’ll also be updating the Blu-ray Player app in the coming days to round out these improvements.

- Controller and headset adaptor firmware updates will reduce audio static and improve wireless connectivity.

- Silent reboot after system updates and system update on demand now available. If your console is in Instant On mode, the update will happen automatically and return to standby upon completion. This means you won’t need to power on your console after an update moving forward. If you want to take future updates when available without waiting for your console to do it on its own, we’ve added this option under system settings and you’ll be able to use it next update. It will only show as available when there is an update to take.

PS4 System Update v1.70

The 1.70 PS4 Update is out now. The new features. :oohyeah:

Automatic Pre-download: No more waiting until after a game is released to start downloading select pre-ordered games from PlayStation Store. This new feature allows you to get to your games faster by automatically downloading select pre-ordered games up to several days in advance of the release, so that it’s ready to play as soon as the game is released on launch day. There’s also a countdown timer prior to the release of the game so you’ll know how soon your game will be available for you to start playing.

Option to Disable HDCP for Games: This highly requested feature will allow you to have the option to turn off HDCP for games so you can capture longer gameplay sessions directly from your HDMI output and export them elsewhere.
USB Export Option for Captured Gameplay: It’s now even easier to show off your heroic gaming moments and the SHAREfactory videos you create with the world using this feature to export your videos and screenshots to a USB drive. Just click on the DUALSHOCK 4 SHARE button, save your gameplay on a USB drive, and then share your proudest achievements on other social networks and other video platforms.

Live Broadcasting in HD and Archiving Support: We’ve increased the resolution for live broadcasts so you and your friends can watch games livestreamed in 720p HD. You can also archive your broadcasts on Twitch or Ustream and watch them again later.

New SHARE Options: We’ve got a number of new SHARE settings that will give you better control of what you want to share with your friends. Here is what you can look forward to:
Change the default gameplay recording time in the SHARE menu under Video Clip Settings.
Save only the video clips and screenshots you want by selecting Upload Screenshots or Upload Video Clips for each capture. Also upload video clips and screenshots during your live gameplay broadcasts.
Select specific Facebook audiences to share each video or screenshot with.

New DUALSHOCK 4 Options: New light bar settings have been added for DUALSHOCK 4, allowing you to change it to Bright, Medium or Dim in the Settings menu. The touchpad has also been updated, allowing you to navigate the on-screen keyboard using the DUALSHOCK 4 touchpad.

New Friends Options: It’s now easier to find Friends and send requests with the ability to search Friends-of-Friends, view Mutual Friends on another user’s profile, and accept Friend requests directly from the Friends list.
New Trophies Sort Option: You can now sort Trophies by rarity in the Options menu.

PlayStation Store Payment Support: Similar to PS3, we’re introducing Alternative Payment Methods (APMs) for PS4 for content purchased on PS Store, starting with PayPal support.

More PlayStation Camera Commands: More voice commands are added to PlayStation Camera, allowing you to launch the apps installed on your PS4 with the sound of your voice.

New PlayStation Plus Icon: For Plus members, you’ll now have the PS Plus icon appear next to your SEN ID on the login screen, home screen and other areas across the PS4 system’s sleek user interface.

Music Unlimited SHARE Options: With a Music Unlimited subscription, you can easily share your favorite songs with your friends by pressing the SHARE button on your DUALSHOCK 4.

Just in case you can't find where to disable the HDCP, goto Settings > System. Where it says Enable HDCP, uncheck it. Now you should be able to capture your gameplay so long as you have a capture device.

Xbox One August Update

  • Activity feed updates: We’re adding new ways for you to interact with friends in the activity feed. The interface will change to a single column scrolling list that is longer and includes more content. We’ll add the ability to post text to your feed, and to “like” and comment on feed items. You can share game clips and anything else in the feed with friends either publically (to your activity feed) or privately (as an attachment to a message). You’ll also be notified when anyone likes, comments on or shares your items. Each user will get a personal feed on their profile, so you can see what specific friends have been up to. And, with SmartGlass, you can see what your friends have shared to their activity feed and “like” specific posts (additional activity feed support coming in future SmartGlass updates).

  • Expanded Friends area on Home: Right from Home, see what’s going on with your friends. Stay up-to-date with their current activity, the top trending games your friends are playing, and a leaderboard to see who has been working the hardest on their Gamerscore. We’re doing an extended preview on this, rolling it into the early access preview this month to a subset of our preview audience so we can refine it until it’s ready for the entire Xbox One market.

  • Mobile purchase: One of the most requested features on Xbox Feedback. Using Xbox SmartGlass or on Xbox.com, you can remotely purchase games and Add-on content. No more waiting to begin downloading when you get home – if your console is set to automatically take updates, your console will begin downloading your purchase.

  • Low battery notification: You asked for it, now a notification will pop up when your controller battery is getting low.

  • Disable notifications during video: Adding the ability to turn off notifications based feedback we heard from you.

  • Enabling 3D Blu-ray: An update to the Blu-ray player app will enable 3D Blu-ray functionality on Xbox One.

  • OneGuide in Brazil, Mexico, Austria and Ireland: Live TV listings can be configured for four new countries as part of this month’s Preview program. And now there is an OneGuide Issue Reporter available under the TV & OneGuide settings, Troubleshooting section.

  • Last seen time in Friends list: Direct from Xbox Feedback, the friends list will now show how long it’s been since a friend has been online. For example, “Last seen 20m ago: Forza Motorsport 5.”
