Well... that was fast...:
the studio officially announced their plans for a sequel, which will be the second installment in s magical new trilogy of films. The incomparable J.K. Rowling is back on-board to pen the script, a task she may have already completed, and long-time Potter director David Yates will be back to helm his sixth project in the Potter universe. Rowling, David Heyman, & Steve Kloves will produce the picture with Lionel Wigram, Neil Blair, Rick Senat, and Danny Cohen serving as executive producers.

WB also confirmed that the film will arrive in theaters on November 16, 2018, a date they already had reserved for a mysterious WB Event film, now revealed of course as the Fantastic Beasts sequel. It's still extremely early in the process, and plot details are pretty much nonexistant at this point, but the brief placeholder synopsis reads: "The second “Fantastic Beasts” movie moves deeper into an increasingly dark time for the wizarding world, where Newt and our other heroes have to decide on their allegiances."

I just came across the news  Reported last month on April.

Jude Law has been tapped to play young Dumbledore in the “Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them” sequel.

David Yates is returning to direct and Eddie Redmayne will be back to star alongside Johnny Depp, who will play the villain Grindelwald.

From CBM:
Warner Bros. has announced today that principal photography has begun on the Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them sequel, the second instalment in a series of films set to run for five chapters.

It's been confirmed that Eddie Redmayne will return as wizarding worldmagizoologist Newt Scamander; alongside Katherine Waterston as Auror Tina Goldstein; Alison Sudol as her sister, Queenie Goldstein; and Dan Fogler as Jacob Kowalski, the only No-Maj in the foursome. Johnny Depp is playing the villainous Dark Wizard Gellert Grindelwald, while Jude Law has been cast as Albus Dumbledore.

Ezra Miller's Credence is making a mysterious return, while Zoë Kravitz plays Leta Lestrange, who was glimpsed in a photo as a woman from Newt’s past; Callum Turner is the famed Theseus Scamander, a war hero and Auror, who also happens to be Newt’s older brother; and Claudia Kim plays a young woman we first meet as a featured attraction at a wizarding circus. The ensemble cast also includes William Nadylam as a wizard named Yusuf Kama; Ingvar Sigurdsson as a bounty hunter named Grimmson; Ólafur Darri Ólafsson as Skender, who runs the wizarding circus; and Kevin Guthrie as Abernathy, whom we met as Tina and Queenie’s boss at MACUSA (Magical Congress of the USA).

And official synopsys:
J.K. Rowling wrote the screenplay for the film, which opens in 1927, a few months after Newt helped to unveil and capture the infamous Dark wizard Gellert Grindelwald. However, as he promised he would, Grindelwald has made a dramatic escape and has been gathering more followers to his cause—elevating wizards above all non-magical beings. The only one who might be able to stop him is the wizard he once called his dearest friend, Albus Dumbledore. But Dumbledore will need help from the wizard who had thwarted Grindelwald once before, his former student Newt Scamander. The adventure reunites Newt with Tina, Queenie and Jacob, but his mission will also test their loyalties as they face new perils in an increasingly dangerous and divided wizarding world. The film expands the wizarding world, moving from New York to London and on to Paris. There are also some surprising nods to the Harry Potter stories that will delight fans of the books and film series.

All this looks REALLY interesting!!!

Not going to lie. I hate the name...

I wish they would have stuck with how they did the first title "and where to find them" and continue that somehow.
Like... "and how to train them" or something along those lines. haha I dunno.

at least do Fantastic Beasts and The Crimes of Grindelwald. Makes it feel a little more Harry Potter like.

Just watched FB&WTFT for the third time tonight. It was a chore to say the least. I liked it the first and second time (being a big Harry Potter fan), but I gotta say David Yates directorial skills are naff. I’m not delighted to hear he’s directing the follow up. Grindelwald’s reveal in the first movie was cheesy rather than spooky. Depp looked like an albino cave dweller.

Can’t wait for this.

Much prefer this era of the Magical world than Potters era.
Always wants to know more about the history of the adult characters from the Harry Potter movies

just booked my tickets for this then noticed something very strange.
booked imax but then at the end it said imax 2d
so rechecked all options and saw
1.imax
2.3d
3.2d

so by the look of it they have not filmed imax in 3d which for is a first, unless is a mistake by odeon website.

has anyone else noticed this when booking theres at any other cinema brand?
